Secretary’s Report

It is with great enthusiasm that I assumed the role of Secretary to the Board and Chair of the
Membership and Awards Committee this year. As this is my first eBulletin report, I want to
take the opportunity to publicly thank my predecessor, Dr. Mariusz Sapijaszko, who has
moved to the position of Vice-President of the CDA Board. I also want to recognize the
members of the Membership and Awards Committee for their hard work over the last couple
of years.
In my new role, I am especially pleased to welcome our newest CDA members: Dr. Jennifer
Salsberg in Toronto and Dr. Rahul Shukla in Hamilton, as well as all the new dermatology
residents across the country.
The fall is a busy time for the Membership and Awards Committee as we launch into awards
season. The CDA has many awards and you are encouraged to consider nominating your
colleagues or mentors. A nomination is a great way of saying thank you or publicly
acknowledging someone before their peers – we have the Award of Honour, the Award of
Merit, or the Barney Usher Research Award in Dermatology.
There is also the opportunity of giving a little extra profile to some of the up and comers in our
field through the Young Dermatologists Volunteer Award or the Louis Vogel Residents Writing
Award. Finally, the Public Education Award is one way we recognize industry, media and
other not-for-profits for how they further the understanding of dermatologic issues and
healthy behaviours. You are the eyes and ears in the community who observe these programs
and can bring them to the committee’s attention.
On occasion, the Membership and Awards Committee will put forward dermatologists to CMA
and other awards. Once again, we welcome your recommendations and we can work
together on coordinating a fulsome nomination package, if necessary. For more information,

As we enter the last quarter of 2014, we renew the call for volunteers to the many committees,
boards, and activities underway with the CDA. If you have any questions, comments,
