University of Ottawa: Resident`s News
February 2016 University of Ottawa: Resident’s News Andrea Zarins, MD, PGY2 It is hard to believe we are already over halfway through the 2015-16 academic year! Back in July, we welcomed PGY-1s Alana McEvoy and Derek To from Ottawa and Amin Bahubeshi from Toronto. They transitioned seamlessly into the program and we are very happy to have them on board. The Ottawa Dermatology Department hosted an excellent Clinical and Scientific Meeting in October, where the topic was “The Aging Face”. We welcomed Toronto dermatologist and CDA president Dr. Vince Bertucci, and Sudbury plastic surgeon Dr. Scott Barr as speakers and we thank them for their insight and expertise! Residents had a wonderful time at our winter retreat, exploring our artistic side, making sushi. It was far more of a success than we ever imagined it would be and of course resulted in a delicious lunch. We also had a great time celebrating the holiday season at the 2nd Annual Holiday Party, held at the Army Officer’s Mess in Ottawa. Resident Retreat Holiday Party – December 2015 Reflecting on last year’s accomplishments, Dr. Ashley O’Toole deserves special mention for her prominent role in research. She won the Alexander A. Fisher Resident award for the best oral presentation at the American Contact Dermatitis Society Annual Meeting in San Francisco, for her presentation entitled, “Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis (AGEP): A Case Series and Review of the Guidelines for Patch Testing in Cutaneous Drug Eruption”. She subsequently was also presented with the D.C. Montgomery Research Award. We are very proud and extend a big congratulations to Ashley! We look forward to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Meeting coming up very soon in Washington, D.C., although it may be hard to beat our grand finale road trip to wine country in Napa Valley at last year’s meeting!
