Mountaineering Course
3 days
Discovery, learning & practice of the high mountain.
Our course is based on education and practice. Our guides will teach you all the basic
technics required for rock and ice terrain.
Two practice days will get you familiar with rock and ice climbing, and to prepare for an
unforgettable mountaineering experience in the high alpine.
Program
Day 1 : Rock Climbing crag
Departure at 9 am at our office, Place de l’Eglise, in Chamonix.
- First experience and reviewing session : learn about safety and rock climbing basics.
- Belaying a party leader and a second climber.
- Belaying for “top roping”, setting a belay station, learning how to abseil, leading a pitch and climbing second,
placing rock protection, …
Day 2 : Ice-climbing practice on Mer de Glace
- First experience and reviewing session : learning the basic techniques for walking on a glacier.
- Classic cramponing method, using 10-spike crampons, roping up, belaying …
Day 3 : Rock / Snow / Ice climb (the route selection depends on particpants’ skills)
Depending on the level of the group and in consultation with your guide, you will realize one course to
implement the technics you have learned during the first two days.
Rock climbing examples : Index, Chapelle de la Glière, Chéserys, Eperon des Minettes, N-NE de l’M …
Mixt/ice climbing examples : Petite Verte, Tour Ronde (VN), Traversée des Pointes Lachenal, Arête des Cosmiques …
If necessary, your guide may adjust the program to participants’s skills and motivation, as well as to weather
forecast and overall mountain conditions. In case of bad weather conditions in the Chamonix valley, we can
drive to Italy or Switzerland and enjoy great mountaineering too.

COURSES DETAILS
PHYSICAL SHAPE :
In good shape : Can daily hike and/or climb vertical gain ranging from 500 to 700 meters, 5 to 6 hours at a
moderate hiking pace. Focus is laid on activity discovery and practice.
TECHNICAL ABILITY :
Beginner : No technical knowledge is required in advance. This course is for beginners or people who have already
done some mountaineering courses before and who wishes to start again smoothly.
GUIDING POLICY
Minimum 3 and maximum 4 participants per guide.
In terms of group size, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the strictest in the
mountain guiding industry.

DOCUMENTATION
ID or valid passport.
Having a repatriation insurance is mandatory. Cancellation insurance is highly recommended.
We provide optional insurance contracts for repatriation and trip cancellation (see booking form).
DATE
From Monday to Wednesday
Each Monday from the 05th of June to the 11th of September.
MEETING
Meet the group and your mountain guide at 6 pm, at the Compagnie des Guides’ office, 190 place de l’Eglise, in
Chamonix. This meeting is not compulsory.
Either come on Monday morning, meeting at 9 am at the Chamonix Guides Company.
The course ends by the end of the afternoon, on Wednesday.
PRICE: 485 euros per person, based on a minimum of 3 persons
Including:
- 3 days of mountain guiding services,
- lifts tickets,
- daily lunches.
Not included:
- personal equipment,
- accommodation in Chamonix,
- mandatory repatriation insurance.
