Ice fall climbing course

In winter, water freeze for a few months… Ice falls are an exceptional but short-lived
playground that you need to “catch” when conditions are good. Ice climbing is playing with
the incredible ice structures formed hours by hours during the winter. Chamonix is definitely
one of the most central place for ice climbing with every kind of difficulties less than 1h by
car from the city.
PROGRAM
Day 1: Introduction to ice climbing
Meeting at the Guide’s Company at 8.30 am with your guide and the participants.
Checking of your personal equipment.
Departure on the spot “La Cremerie” in Argentière and learning the use of the equipment and basics.
Day 2: Climbing a frozen ice fall
Climb some of the most beautiful falls in Chamonix. The program is flexible enough to accommodate everyone.
There is also the possibility of a multi pitches climb if the group is up to it, as well as the chance to lead.
This program can be modified depending on the weather and mountain conditions

PHYSICAL DIFFICULTY
People in a good physical shape.
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY
This course is designed for people with no experience in ice-climbing and wishing to discover this activity.
GUIDING POLICY
Minimum 2 and maximum 4 participants per guide. In terms of group size, the Compagnie des Guides de
Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the strictest in the mountain guiding industry.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation in Chamonix is NOT included. No overnight in hut.
MISCELLANEOUS
Bring some cash money for personal expenses, a Passport or ID card.
Repatriation insurance is mandatory. Cancellation insurance is highly recommended.

MEETING POINT
8.30am on Day 1 at the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix.
RATE WINTER 2017: 460€/person
Included in the package:
- Mountain guiding service,
- Technical equipment: crampons, ice axes, harness & helmet

- Transportation during the course
Not included:
- Personal technical equipment (clothes)
- High mountain boots (rigid soles)
- Accommodation in Chamonix
- Lift tickets if needed
EQUIPMENT LIST
WARM CLOTHES
Technical mountain underwear
A Goretex. Jacket and pants
Warm pair of pants, warm jacket preferably with a hood, polar fleece and windbreaker with a hood.
Quality gloves and or mits: 3 pairs of gloves (2 small ones to climb and one warmer when waiting)
Warm socks, gaiters.
Backpack ( 40 liters)
Altitude sunglasses and goggles.
Water bottle.
Headlamp, sunscreen lotion.
A hat to wear under the helmet
High altitude glasses
A polar snood
A thermos bottle
