The route offers all terrain conditions which makes it a perfect training climb to prepare for “Mont Blanc in a day”. From Albert 1er hut we continue on the glacier until the rocky airy yet easy section that leads to the summit of Aiguille du Tour, rewarding our efforts with a stunning view over the Mont Blanc range and the distant Swiss peaks. This ascent is proposed in partnership with Petzl. Pre – registration: To help us know you better, please fill out the attached “mountaineering experience form” .This program was designed for private groups, or groups of people sharing a desire to reach the summit together. A day to get familiar with basic mountaineering techniques: walking on a glacier while roped-up, using crampons and ice-axe, learning elementary mountaineering knots, etc. During this first day, we will take some time to learn and master basic mountaineering techniques and test our physical skills in order to increase our chances of success to the summit. PROGRAM: Ascending Aiguille du Tour in a day After an early start from Chamonix we take a break at Albert 1er hut, before setting foot on the glacier. We return to Chamonix later the same day. The route Meeting point: we meet in Chamonix in front of Compagnie des Guides and drive our car to the village of le Tour: driving time: 15-20 mn. Starting point: Le Tour-La Vormaine (1450m/ 4 785 ft)) Car park :+ 0 m Point 1, Refuge Albert 1er (2706m/ 8 929 ft): + 1250m / 4 125ft We hike directly up the glacier morraine. Steep yet no technical difficulty to access the hut. Climbing times: 4 to 6 hours up and 2 to 4 hours down The descent follows the same route This program will depend on weather and terrain conditions at time of ascent, as well as group’s mountaineering skills and fitness level. The guide will suggest another ascent if necessary. It is a good alpitrail start. Regular training is however necessary in order to reach the top of Aiguille du Tour in one day from the valley bottom. TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY: Hiking experience on glacier with crampons is mandatory People who wish to climb Aiguille du Tour should have a good experience of the use of crampons on a glacier at high altitude. GUIDING the group will be under the responsibility of a certified and trained mountain guide, who has a good knowledge and experience in alpitrailing. 4 people per guide max. The guiding policy applied by Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix is one of the strictest in the mountain guiding industry. MEALS During the ascent, breakfast and lunch are taken at the hut. Participants must bring energy snacks (dry fruits, energy gel, chocolate…). Tap water is available from the hut to refill with energy drinks. Bring small change in euros for extra drinks. DOCUMENTATION Valid ID card or passport. Repatriation insurance is mandatory. We strongly recommend the purchase of a cancellation insurance. WARM CLOTHES Mountaineering pants, Technical Gore-Tex type jacket with a hood, A couple of fleeces (a thin and a thicker/warmer one) Technical synthetic underwear (pants and tee-shirt) A hat/Beanie Quality technical gloves or mittens, A pair of warm socks, Ankle gaiters, A 30 liter back-pack, Glacier sun-glasses and snow goggles, A water bottle, A head-light Sun-screen. NOTE: personal trail running equipment is highly recommended to access the hut. TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT Very good quality, non-tightening, mountaineering boots (with rigid sole).
