Le généalogiste, Jean Bernard, illustrera comment la généalogie peut répondre à la question : Où ont vécu les Acadiens à différentes époques? À partir de quelques couples acadiens qui se sont mariés à l’Île en 1812, il retracera le parcours de leurs familles jusqu'au début de l'Acadie. Entrée gratuite. TUESDAY TALK (IN FRENCH) - THE ODYSSEYS OF ACADIAN FAMILIES Acadian genealogy will be the topic of the Tuesday Talk to be held (in French) at the Acadian Museum, in Miscouche, on July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Genealogist, Jean Bernard, will show how genealogy can provide answers to where the Acadians have lived at different times. Using as examples some Acadian couples who got married on the Island in 1812, he will retrace the journey of those families since the early years of Acadia. Admission is free. T.O.P.S. Take Off Pounds Sensibly is a non-profit organization to help you lose weight. Whether you have 10 pounds or 100 pounds to lose, come learn how to lose weight sensibly and have fun doing it! We meet every Tuesday, beginning with weigh-in from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m. at the Tignish Medical Centre. Please enter through the back entrance. Cost is $30.00 for the year and $2.00 every week. MINUTE TO WIN IT Join us for the Minute to Win It Tournament on Wednesday, July 20th at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and show starts at 6:30 p.m. Open to Junior High and High School students to participate. Parents welcomed to attend (students will be on arena floor while parents can watch from the stands). There will be lots of prizes with a grand prize trip for four to Six Flags near Boston. LOT 7 CEILIDH The Lot 7 Ceilidh takes place every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m at St. Mark’s Hall in Burton, Rte 14. Entertainment for Thursday, July 21st will feature the Helping Hand Band, singer Fr. Keith Kennefic, and dancer Samantha MacKay. Lunch, door prize, and 50/50 will provide a fun night for all! V’NEZ CHOU NOUS ACADIAN THEATRE nd For it’s 22 edition of the V’nez Chou Nous theatre, Le Comité culturel de Prince-Ouest, and Le Conseil Rév. COMMUNITY OF TIGNISH • The Annual Demolition Derby hosted by the Tignish Fire Department will be held at Gallant’s Pit in Norway. Come enjoy this big event on Sunday, July 24th at 1:00 p.m. Canteen services on site. • The community of Tignish is once again involved in the Communities in Bloom competition on Wednesday, August 10th. The Community will be judged in the following categories; Tidiness, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Urban Forestry, Landscape, and Floral Display. At this time, the council would like to thank the property owners who have done so much to beautify their property and/or plan to do so in the very near future. Just a reminder, that when you are cutting the grass please have the blade facing the property not the sidewalk. If grass is on the sidewalk please have it swept away. This is all part of the tidiness category. TIGNISH RECREATION DEPARTMENT i The Recreation Department is planning a trip to Magic Mountain on Thursday, August 4th. Regular office hours will resume on Monday, July 25th. 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY The Pitre family are having an Open House / Dance for Denis and Bertha’s 50th Wedding Anniversary on Friday, July 22nd at the Tignish Legion (upstairs). There will be an Open House which will begin at 8:00 p.m. and then Shiloh will begin playing at 9:00 p.m. Looking forward to seeing friends and family of this great couple. The 3 Annual “Fishermen’s Haven Park Celebrates!” will be held on Sunday, July 24th from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Great local entertainment, yummy food including mussels, clams, lobster rolls, children’s activities, 50/50 draws, lottery prize draw, and much more! Celebrate this beautiful West Prince park and help us raise funds to keep it open! All proceeds go toward the upkeep of the park. We are now arranging two new adventures. In October of 2012, Peggy Aylward will be hosing a 10 night cruise and land package exploring Amsterdam, the Rhine River Valley, Strasbourg, France, and Switzerland. IRISH HERITAGE FESTIVAL The Irish Heritage Festival will be displaying a collection of Irish Family histories or trees at the Tignish Cultural Centre from July 25 to 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you have a collection of information on Irish Families that you are willing to allow others to look at, please contact the Festival office at 2063347.
