A number of p r e c i o u s and base m e t a l showings have been
found w i t h i n a l t e r e d Lower J u r a s s i c a n d e s i t i c v o l c a n i c and
sedimentary r o c k s of t h e Unuk R i v e r Formation. Two
p r i n c i p a l zones were i d e n t i f i e d , t h e P e n i n s u l a (Near Shore)
and West zones. S i x d r i l l h o l e s i n t h e West zone c u t s i l v e r
v a l u e s from 22.7 t o 286.0 o z / t and gold v a l u e s from 0.10 t o

The p r o p e r t y i s l o c a t e d a t Brucejack Lake, a t t h e head of
S u l p h u r e t s Creek some 37 m i l e s north-northwest of S t e w a r t .
S e v e r a l showings have been found over a 2-s-pare-zilometre
a r e a . The main showings, as i d e n t i f i e d by work t o 1982, a r e
t h e P e n i n s u l a (Near Shore) zone on t h e west s h o r e of t h e l a k e ,
and t h e West zone a b o u t 800 metres southwest of t h e P e n i n s u l a
zone. Other showings about 1 km south-southwest of t h e
P e n i n s u l a zone have been i d e n t i f i e d a s t h e Stockwork zone,
5.9 v e i n , Galena showing, 0.5 v e i n , Quartz v e i n and Trench
108-111 zone.
Granduc Mines, Limited a c q u i r e d t h e Red River c l a i m (14
u n i t s ) i n about 197 6. Work d u r i n g 197 6-77 i n c l u d e d geochemi c a l surveys and t r e n c h i n g . I n 1979 Esso M i n e r a l s Canada
e n t e r e d a j o i n t v e n t u r e e x p l o r a t i o n agreement on 106 c l a i m s
i n c l u d i n g t h e Red R i v e r , Red River 2 t o 7 and Tedray 1 2 .
Work d u r i n g 1980-82 included t r e n c h i n g , sampling and diamond
d r i l l i n g i n 53 h o l e s (15,200') i n 1982. D r i l l i n g i n 1983
t o t a l l e d 4,400' i n 1 0 h o l e s . No f i e l d work was c a r r i e d c u t
i n 1984. The o p t i o n was t e r m i n a t e d i n 1985 w i t h Esso
r e t a i n i n g n o i n t e r e s t i n t h e p r o p e r t y . Based on work t o
d a t e , r e s e r v e s i n t h e West zone were r e p o r t e d as d r i l l
i n d i c a t e d 160,000 t o n s a t 0.21 o z / t g o l d and 1 9 o z s / t s i l v e r
(Northern Yliner, J u l y 4, 1985, p. 1 ) .
Lacana Ydning Corporation and Newhawk Gold Mines Ltd. i n Ju
1985 a c q u i r e d an o p t i o n from Granduc on a 60% i n t e r e s t i n
t h e p r o p e r t y (Newcana j o i n t v e n t u r e ) . Work in 1985-86, whereby
Newhawk and Lacana each earned a 30% interest, included 13,066
feet of BQ diamond drilling in 22 holes on the West zone, 5 on
the Snowfield zone, and 2 on the Gossan Hill zone, the driving
of a 1,200 feet decline with several crosscuts on the West zone
and an additional 21,797 feet of surface diamond drilling.

and 900 feet of drifting and 150 feet of raising carried out.
Diamond drilling underground totalled 9,400 feet in 95 holes,
and on surface 35,000 feet in 94 holes, 71 on the West,
12 on the Shore and 11 on the Gossan Hill zone. A road and
barge access route to the property was opened in late 1987.
Through a share transaction Lacana Mining Corporation acquired
control of Newhawk; in 1988, Lacana was amalgamated with
other companies to form Corona Corporation.
