These l i m e s t o n e q u a r r i e s are l o c a t e d a t Swamp P o i n t , on t h e
e a s t s i d e of P o r t l a n d Canal, 32 m i l e s s o u t h o f S t e w a r t .
Four c l a i m s , t h e Limestone, L a s t Laugh, L a s t Laugh No. 2
F r a c t i o n , and L a s t Laugh No. 3 F r a c t i o n , owned by Messrs. Harkl e y and Moult, were purchased by t h e Granby Consolidated Mining,
Smelting and Power Company, Limited. Quarrying o p e r a t i o n s were
begun i n 1913 t o supply l i m e s t o n e f o r f l u x i n g purposes t o t h e
company's smelter a t Anyox. I n 1916 a new q u a r r y was opened
about & m i l e from t h e beach. Continuous o p e r a t i o n s were
r e p o r t e d f o r t h e p e r i o d 1916 t o 1919 i n c l u s i v e a t a r a t e of
a b o u t 4,000 t o n s p e r month. Quarrying o p e r a t i o n s were on a
p a r t time b a s i s d u r i n g 1920 and 1921, and i n 1922 t h e company
closed t h e operation.
