DESCR lPTlON OF D EPOStTIDESCRIPTION DU GISEMENT Banks I s l a n d i s underlain mainly by g r a n i t i c rocks of t h e Coast I n t r u s i o n s and remnants of metasedimentary rocks which a r e i n d i c a t e d (Map 23-1970) t o be Permian (?) and/or Older i n age. One such remnant, i n t h e v i c i n i t y of Waller, Hepler and Banks l a k e s , comprises i s o c l i n a l l y folded limes tone and a r g i l l a c e o u s rocks which a r e metamorphosed t o marb le s k a r n and s l a t e . Bulk tonnage disseminated gold occurs i n h i g h l y f r a c t u r e d g r a n i t i c rocks (Kim zone), while high grade gold lodes (Discovery, Tel, Bob zones) occur i n t h e metasediments and a s s o c i a t e d skarns. The m i n e r a l i z a t i o n i s c o n t r o l l e d by a w e l l developed f a u l t and f r a c t u r e system; t h e s e s t r u c t u r e s an t h e sedimentary rocks a r e known l o c a l l y t o continue t o depths g r e a t e r than 350 metres The s u l p h i d e m i n e r a l i z a t i o n include, p y r i t e , py r r h o t i t e , a r s e n o p y r i t e , c h a l c o p y r i t e , s p h a l e r i t e an galena. , . I ' OBJECT LOCATE,D OBJET LOCALlSE Lat. I I The property i s l o c a t e d on Banks I s l a n d some 60 miles south of P r i n c e Rupert. Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited l o c a t e d t h e f i r s t claims i n J u l y 1960 a t Hepler Lake, midway between Banks and Waller Lakes. This new discovery of gold-bearing mineralizat i o n i n the c o a s t a l a r e a r e s u l t e d from s y s t e m a t i c p r o s p e c t i n g of major lineaments. Some 200 claims were s t a k e d by Falconbridge i n the Banks, Banker, I s l e , O m i , Waller, Bay, Nik, L i l l y , and Keetcha groups. M i n e r a l i z a t i o n on t h e Banks 1-4 claims a t t h e s o u t h e a s t end of Hepler Lake was explored by diamond d r i l l i n g during t h e summer of 1963. The d r i l l i n g c o n s i s t e d of 5 EX d r i l l h o l e s t o t a l l i n g 1,250 f e e t and 1 8 AXWL h o l e s t o t a l l i n g 5,800 f e e t . Additional work i n 1964 included about 60 l i n e miles of geochemical and s e l f p o t e n t i a l surveys, about 100 rock c u t s , p i t s , and trenches, and 13,074 f e e t of diamond d r i l l i n g i n 16 h o l e s . No f u r t h e r a c t i v i t y was r e p o r t e d u n t i l 1973 when Wesfrob Mines L i d t e d , a wholly owned s u b s i d i a r y of Falconbridge, began work on t h e p r o p e r t y . During 1973 Wesfrob c a r r i e d o u t magnetorceter, electromagnetic and g e o c h e d c a l s o i l (200 F u r t h e r geochemical samples) surveys over 2 . 3 line-miles s o i l surveying (348 samples) was done i n 1974. During 1975 a geochemical survey (4,136 samples) over 31.5 line-kilometres covering a l l t h e claims, and trenching, were c a r r i e d o u t . Work during 1976 included g e o l o g i c a l mapping, s u r f a c e diamond d r i l l i n g i n 11h o l e s t o t a l l i n g 1,102 metres on Bank 1, 2 , 4 , 141, and Banker 141, 147, 210, 211, and packsack diamond d r i l l i n g i n 9 h o l e s t o t a l l i n g 112.2 metres on Bank 2, 141, 147. The a d j a c e n t Tel group of claims was l o c a t e d by KcIntyrePorcupine Mines, Limited i n 1964. During 1965 the company p u t down 26 packsack diamond d r i l l h o l e s t o t a l l i n g 1,761 f e e t on Tel 23 claim. N o f u r t h e r work was reported. The company name was changed i n 1974 t o McIntyre Mines Limited. S p r o a t t S i l v e r Mines Ltd i n June 1975 purchased from McIntyre t h e Tel 23, 24, 37 and 38 claims. I n January 1984 United t r a n s f e r r e d t h e agreement t o Trader Resource Corp. A second agreement gave T r a d e r a 100% working i n t e r e s t w i t h Falconb r i d g e and Inter-Globe Resources L t d (formerly Host Ventures) a 10% c a r r i e d i n t e r e s t each. Work i n 1984 i n c l u d e d a i r b o r n e Mag and EM s u r v e y s over 300 kn; and 3 575 m of diamond d r i l l i n g . I n 1985 g e o p h y s i c a l and geochemical s u r v e y s , t r e n c h i n g and d r i l l i n g were c a r r i e d o u t ; d r i l l i n g t o d a t e on f o u r zones t o t a l l e d approximately 29,000' i n 157 h o l e s .
