Gulliver’s travels
In the following text, five word groups are missing. Below the text you can find eight possible phrases
to fill into the gaps. Write down the correct numbers in the spaces provided.
Gulliver’s travels is a well-known children’s book (5): there are little people, big people and talking
horses. You can enjoy three stories in this book, in each of them Lemuel Gulliver is the hero who
travels to different places in a fantasy world. First Gulliver comes to Lilliput where he is a lot bigger
than all the other tiny men, (1). These men hold him prisoner (8). When he tries to break free they
attack him with arrows. After that they bring him food and drink and want to take him to their
king.
Gulliver is always friendly and that is why the king does not kill him but teaches Gulliver his
language. He says he will free him when he follows the king’s rules. Gulliver gives him all his
weapons (6), and can walk again. Later he learns about the war between Lilliput and Blefuscu and
offers to help the king, he pulls forty Blefuscu ships to Lilliput and the king is very happy about
this. The people from the two countries, (3), stop fighting and finish their war. Gulliver goes to
Blefescu because the king of the island invites him. After some time he decides to go back home.

Travelling is fun
There are many places to travel to. You can go to the sea and surf or play in the sand. Or
perhaps you would like to hike in or climb the mountains. Many people visit cities when
they travel because each city has a different culture and look. Whether you like museums or
the outdoors, lots of culture or just a bit, there is a place that you would enjoy travelling to
somewhere. The world is a big place, all you need to do is take a look.
