Pressemitteilung EBBA: „Cascada“ succeeds „Tokio Hotel“ Over 30 European TV stations broadcast MEDIA CONSULTA’s TV material Berlin, 29 January 2008 – The singer Natalie Horler alias „Cascada“ is a German export hit: the musician from Bonn stormed the charts predominantly in France, England and Scandinavia. Last Sunday, she received a “European Border Breakers Award 2008“ (EBBA) for her border crossing success and, thus, succeeded the band „Tokio Hotel“, the German winners of last year. As in 2007, MEDIA CONSULTA (MC) - on behalf of the EU Commission - organised the big event framed by the biggest international music fair MIDEM in Cannes and realised the European-wide accompanying PR measures. More than 30 European TV stations made use of the TV material produced by MC to report on the Award Ceremony. TV stations as Antena 3, EuroNews, Deutsche Welle, A-TV, DK4, RTL2, TV5, RTE reached with the news package by now already circa 16 Million viewers in Europe. Through the distribution of a TV documentary and further TV reports on EBBA, the total number of viewers will rise significantly during the next days. With the European Border Breakers Awards, EU Commissioner Jan Figel’ honours annually ten musical groups or individual artists and, thus, recognises their contribution to a multifaceted, colourful mélange of contemporary European music. The awardees are chosen according to their success they produced with their debut album in Europe, independently of the career in their home countries. Criteria are for instance sales and touring experiences within the EU countries, excluding the country of production. For the fifth time, the Award was granted to successful European musicians. Targeting the European audience, MC once more created a TV documentary of approximately half an hour. It contains amongst others backstage shootings and interviews with the musicians, EU Commissioner Figel’ and the French rapper Abd Al Malik who is one of the Ambassadors of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008. On top of that, the viewers get to see MTV legend Ray Cokes who moderates the award ceremony. Music plays a central role in the cultural life of the Europeans: more than 60% state that they listen to music on a daily basis. Despite different language and culture, more and more musicians overcome borders and manage to achieve a breakthrough outside their home country. Ten artists who succeeded with it and who now received the cup are Cascada (Germany) The Fratellis (Great Britain) Sunrise Avenue (Finland) Ayọ (France) Dolores O’Riordan (Ireland) Basshunter (Sweden) Miguel Ángel Muñoz (Spain) ReBorn (Belgium) Dúné (Denmark) Hemp Gru (Poland) Zu MEDIA CONSULTA: MEDIA CONSULTA ist die größte unabhängige PR- und Werbeagentur in Deutschland und Marktführer in den Bereichen Corporate Communications, Jugendmarketing und Politische Kommunikation.
