r e p o r t e d i n s i l i c i f i e d shear zones i n g r a n i t e . The mineral
occurs a s small green specks on f r a c t u r e planes i n t h e s h e a r
zones. Preliminary sampling r e p o r t e d l y gave v a l u e s i n t h e
range from 0.12 t o 0.32% uranium oxide. The Purple Rose
claims a r e u n d e r l a i n by q u a r t z i t e , greenstone, and limestone
of t h e Cache Creek group, c u t by g r a n i t i c i n t r u s i v e s . The
uranium showings l i e i n t h e s t r o n g l y k a o l i n i z e d g r a n i t e i n the
v i c i n i t y of a n o r t h e r l y s t r i k i n g shear zone. A s e l e c t e d
sample assayed: Uranium oxide, 0.088%; thorium oxide, 0.011%.
Company a s s a y s showed s m a l l amounts of s i l v e r , and some l e a d
and copper. A t one p l a c e on t h e c o n t a c t t h e limestone i s met:
morphosed t o a t r e m o l i t e g a r n e t skarn containing a few small
l e n s e s of magnetite and showing copper s t a i n along minor
fractures.
The Zeunerite (copper uranium a r s e n a t e ) occurrence is t h e
f i r s t recorded i n B r i t i s h Columbia. No primary uranium
mineral has been i d e n t i f i e d i n t h e s e occurrences.
The m i n e r a l i z a t i o n i s l o c a l l y a s s o c i a t e d with f l u o r i t e ,

The occurrence of uranium h a s been r e p o r t e d i n t h e v i c i n i t y
of t h e summits of Mounts Leonard, Vaughan, and Barham, some 1 5
miles n o r t h e a s t of A t l i n .
F l o a t submitted t o t h e Barymin Company, Limited by l o c a l
prospectors l a t e i n 1953 was i d e n t i f i e d a s high-grade b o t y r o i d a l
pitchblende. In 1954 t h e company engaged p r o s p e c t o r s , N.S.
Fisher and 0.. Olsen t o search f o r t h e source of t h e high-grade
f l o a t . They f a i l e d t o f i n d any pitchblende b u t l o c a t e d a radioa c t i v e a r e a and s t a k e d about 60 claims i n t h e Purple Rose and
Fisher groups i n August 1954. The Purple Rose group l i e s a t
%bout t h e 5,500 f o o t e l e v a t i o n on t h e headwall of t h e c i r q u e a t
t h e head of t h e w e s t branch of Cracker Creek. The F i s h e r group
lies about 4 miles t o t h e southwest, on t h e s o u t h e a s t s i d e of
Yount Leonard. During t h e summer of 1955 t h e company c a r r i e d
out s t r i p p i n g on showings on both groups. A c o n s i d e r a b l e amount
of work was done i n t h e t a l u s , attempting t o reach bedrock
through t h e permanently f r o z e n m a t e r i a l t h a t l i e s j u s t below t h e
surface; on t h e Purple Rose, bedrock was reached i n only one
trench about 12 f e e t long.
Jason Explorers Ltd. held 6 claims i n 1967 b u t i t i s n o t
known i f t h e s e were on t h e Purple Rose o r F i s h e r showin s.
The ground was h e l d i n t h e l a t e 1970's a s t h e P a t o f-4
:laims (36 u n i t s ) , owned by Union O i l Company of Canada Ltd.
Jork i n 1977-78 i n c l u d e d ' g e o l o g i c a l mapping, a reconnaissance
zround s c i n t i l l o m e t e r survey covering Pato 1, and geochemical
surveys comprising 87 s o i l , 5 rock and 2 water samples.
