Kenny Creek flows e a s t e r l y i n t o S i l v e r Creek a t a p o i n t some
24 miles n o r t h e a s t of Takla Landing.
Gold was discovered on S i l v e r Creek i n 1868 b u t t h e creek
was never mined t o any g r e a t e x t e n t . L i t t l e i s known of t h e
e a r l y o p e r a t i o n s on e i t h e r S i l v e r o r Kenny creeks. I n 1912 and
subsequent y e a r s some t e s t i n g of t h e g r a v e l s on S i l v e r Creek
was done by G.H. Knowlton and a s s o c i a t e s . Yukon Border P l a c e r
GoldsLimited d r i l l e d 8 h o l e s on S i l v e r Creek i n 1935. On f i v e
l e a s e s on S i l v e r Creek, owned i n 1954 by M r s . W. T a i t , Canadian
Exploration, Limited, d r i l l e d 10 h o l e s t o t a l l i n g 877 f e e t ; t h e
r e s u l t s were r e p o r t e d t o be discouraging.

These c r e e k s have f a i r l y wide v a l l e y s w l t h h l g h g r a v e l
banks on both s i d e s . I n p l a c e s t h e s e d e p o s i t s a r e s e v e r a l
hundred f e e t t h i c k , and i n c l u d e both boulder c l a y and stream
g r a v e l s . The p r e s e n t stream channels have c u t i n t o bedrock
along p a r t s of t h e i r courses, forming rock canyons. Along
Kenny Creek t h e bedrock c o n s i s t s mainly of interbedded a r g i l l i t e s , c h e r t s , and greenstones of t h e Cache Creek group. S i l v e r
Creek below t h e j u n c t i o n flows almost along t h e P i n c h i f a u l t
zone, t r a v e r s i n g a l t e r n a t e l y Cache Creek rocks and sedmientary
and v o l c a n i c rocks of t h e Takla formation. The most extensive
workings on S i l v e r Creek a r e n e a r t h e mouth of V i t a l Creek,
and some 3 m i l e s f a r t h e r upstream n e a r i t s j u n c t i o n w i t h Kenny
Creek. The workings on Kenny Creek extend f o r - a b o u t h a l f a
m i l e above t h e j u n c t i o n , and i t is r e p o r t e d t h a t concentrat i o n s of p l a c e r gold were found i n shallow g r a v e l s overlying
rock benches.
