Lors de l’assemblée générale annuelle de l’Ombudsman des services bancaires
et d’investissement (OSBI) qui a eu lieu le 14 septembre 2010 à Toronto, le
conseil d’administration a confirmé la nomination de trois nouveaux
administrateurs indépendants: Mme Louise Martel, Mme Angela Ferrante et M.
Ian Lightstone.
Mme Martel, FCA, est professeure titulaire en sciences comptables à HEC
Montréal et directrice du Centre International de Vigie en Information
Financière. Elle agit comme « coach » en comptabilité/finance auprès de
cadres supérieurs d’entreprises. Elle est aussi présidente du comité de
vérification de Télé-Québec et membre du conseil d’administration de CIREM.
Mme Ferrante a été gestionnaire à la Commission de l’énergie de l’Ontario. Elle
est présentement membre du conseil d’administration de Via Rail, de
Gestionnaire indépendant du réseau électrique, du Conseil de recherches en
sciences humaines du Canada et de la Fondation canadienne de recherche sur
la gouvernance.
M. Lightstone est présentement administrateur de MJI Global Inc. Il fait partie du
conseil d’administration de Gore Mutual Insurance Company et de Bridgepoint
Health Foundation, dont il a d’ailleurs été président. M. Lightstone est membre de
l'Association de la recherche et de l'intelligence marketing et de Dobson Centre
for Entrepreneurial Studies. Auparavant, il était directeur fondateur de
Thompson Lightstone & Company, une des plus importantes firmes d’étude de
marché au Canada.
M. James R. Savary, membre du conseil d’administration de l’OSBI depuis 1998
et président du comité de normalisation de 2005 à 2008, a quitté ses fonctions.
L’OSBI remercie sincèrement le professeur Savary pour sa contribution
importante au cours de toutes ces années.
Le conseil d’administration de l’OSBI est composé de dix administrateurs, dont
sept indépendants et trois œuvrant dans l’industrie.

L’OSBI est le service national indépendant de résolution de différends à
l’intention des consommateurs et des petites entreprises qui ne réussissent pas
à régler leur plainte avec une firme de services bancaires ou d’investissement.
Solution de rechange au système judiciaire, nous travaillons dans un contexte
informel et dans la confidentialité pour trouver des solutions équitables aux
différends portant sur les produits et services bancaires ou d’investissement.
L’OSBI examine la plupart des plaintes de nature bancaire et d’investissement,
notamment celles relatives: aux cartes de débit et de crédit, aux prêts
hypothécaires, aux actions, aux fonds communs de placement, aux fiducies de
revenu, aux obligations, aux certificats de placement garanti, aux prêts et autres
instruments de crédit, aux fraudes, à la convenance, aux transactions non
autorisées, aux frais et taux, aux erreurs et fausses représentations, aux
procédures de recouvrement. Lorsque requis, l’OSBI peut recommander un
dédommagement allant jusqu’à 350 000$.

OBSI Board Renewal
At the Annual General Meeting of the Ombudsman for Banking Services and
Investments (OBSI) held in Toronto on September 14, 2010, the Board of
Directors confirmed the appointment of three new independent directors:
Professor Louise Martel, Ms. Angela Ferrante, and Mr. Ian Lightstone.
Professor Martel, FCA, is a full professor in accounting at HEC Montréal and
director of the International Watch Centre for Financial Information. She also
acts as coach in accounting/finance for senior executives of enterprises. She is
president of the audit committee of Télé-Québec and member of the board of
CIREM.
Ms. Ferrante is a retired executive with the Ontario Energy Board. She currently
serves on the Board of Directors of Via Rail, the Independent Electricity System
Operator, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and
the Canadian Foundation for Governance Research.
Mr. Lightstone is currently a director of MJI Global Inc. He is a member of the
Board of Directors and Past-Chair of the Bridgepoint Health Foundation,
member of the Board of Directors of Gore Mutual Insurance Company and a
Fellow of both the Market Research Intelligence Association and the Dobson
Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies. Previously, he was the founding Principal of
Thompson Lightstone & Company, one of Canada’s largest market research
firms.
Stepping down from OBSI’s Board is Professor James R. Savary, a member of
OBSI’s Board of Directors since 1998 and Chair of the Board’s Standards
Committee from 2005-2008. OBSI thanks Professor Savary for his valued
contribution to OBSI over the years.
OBSI’s Board of Directors is comprised of ten Directors, including seven
Independent Directors and three Industry Directors.

OBSI is the national independent dispute resolution service for consumers and
small businesses with a complaint they can’t resolve with their banking services
or investment firm. As a free alternative to the legal system, we work informally
and confidentially to find fair outcomes to disputes about banking and investment
products and services.
OBSI looks into complaints about most banking and investment matters including:
debit and credit cards; mortgages; stocks, mutual funds, income trusts, bonds
and GICs; loans and credit; fraud; investment advice; unauthorized trading; fees
and rates; transaction errors; misrepresentation; and accounts sent to
collections. Where a complaint has merit, OBSI may recommend compensation
up to a maximum of $350,000.
