Herbstferienprogramm für Schülerinnen
Kaiserslauterns Oberbürgermeister
“Jetzt probieren, später studieren!” Mit
diesem Motto bieten Studentinnen und Mitarbeiterinnen unserer Universität naturwissenschaftlich-technisch interessierten Schülerinnen der 8.-10. Klassen an Gymnasien
vom 16.-18.10. ein Herbstferienprogramm
an. Dabei haben die Mädchen Gelegenheit,
die Hochschule zu erkunden und in vielen
Workshops teilzunehmen. Die Mentorinnen
hoffen dadurch Vorurteile von Frauen gegenüber technischen Berufen abbauen zu
können und ermutigen, solche Studiengänge
und Ausbildungsberufe zu ergreifen.
Dr. Klaus Weichel erhielt am 31. August
2007 vom scheidenden Oberbürgermeister
Bernhard J. Deubig die offizielle Amtskette
und damit die formelle Würde des Oberbürgermeisters der Stadt.
Profi-Basketballer “Braves” spielen in
TU-Sporthalle
In der kommenden Saison 2007/2008 werden
die Heimspiele der Kaiserslautern Braves,
Zweite Basketball-Bundesliga ProA in der
Uni-Sporthalle stattfinden. Die Geschäftsführer des Basketball-Zweitligisten sind sehr
froh über die Unterzeichnung der Verträge
mit TU-Präsident Prof. Dr. Helmut Schmidt
hinsichtlich der Nutzung der Sporthalle. Sie
bietet Platz für 1040 Zuschauer.
University Campus on Google Earth
The 3D-model of the TU Kaiserslautern for
Google Earth was developed at the teaching- and research field „Computeraided Planning- and Designmethods in City Planning
and Architecture (CPE)“ during the summer
semester 2007 by six students. The buildings
were constructed and textured by the students with the help of detailed photographs
of the facades. Some buildings needed to
be manually adapted because of the differences between the Google Earth and the
real terrain. The intention of this work is, to
present a threedimensional impression of
the university for interested viewers and
potential visitors. More information under:

“Kaiserslautern soll sich zu einer mittelstandsfreundlichen Kommune weiterentwickeln. Die Fachhochschule, Technische
Universität und die Forschungsinstitute
sollen helfen, den wirtschaftlichen Motor
weiter anzukurbeln und damit auch zukunftsfähige Lehrstellen und Arbeitsplätze
zu schaffen.” In diesem Zusammenhang
verwies der promovierte Biologe auf neue
Forschungsgebiete wie zum Beispiel die
Biotechnologie, Nanotechnologie oder auch
die Laserwissenschaften.
Ein kleiner Wunsch wurde von Weichel
geäußert: Kaiserslautern soll eine Internationale Schule bekommen, die den internationalen Charakter Kaiserslauterns sowie
die Stadt als Forschungsstandort internationaler Wissenschaftler unterstreiche. Inwieweit dieses langfristige Projekt realisiert
werden kann, ist noch nicht festgelegt.
New Supermarket
Another Lidl supermarket opened in KurtSchumacher-Strasse 1. The location is in a
short walking distance to the university.

Ghanaian Universities especially are benefiting from the good quality of Kaiserslautern
Products. I know this is a record, no International University has been able to provide
the country with so many Lecturers as the
school has done and this is what makes
Technische Universität Kaiserslautern special; always producing the best.
We thank the University for admitting five (5)
Ghanaians into the school. We pray they all
get visas and get to Kaiserslautern to enjoy
the quality which we now pride ourselves
with.
We are appealing to the school to continue
admitting more Ghanaians who qualify so that
we will continue making the marks in Ghana
and raising high the name of our alma mater.
