Little Book Worms: The Snowy Day
For children 3 to 6 years of age and their parents/guardians and/or caregivers.
Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It
helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Join us
to boost your child’s learning potential by listening to the captivating story of the little boy who celebrates the
snow-draped city with a day of humble adventures. Children will be able to participate in various activities
narrated in the story.
Child Care Connection Meeting / Rencontre de connexion pour service de garde
An opportunity for parents and caregivers to connect through a facilitated meeting.
Une occasion pour parents et responsables de garde non agréés de se rencontrer lors d'une soirée organisée. Cette soirée est offerte en anglais seulement.
Visit with a Community Health Nurse (During Hunt Club Riverside Playgroup)
A community health nurse will be available during playgroup to answer questions regarding your child’s
development.
Infant Massage Program
For parents/guardians and/or caregivers with pre-crawling infants
This 4 week series will teach a full body massage routine, the benefits of individual strokes, and ways to
communicate with your baby. Parents/caregivers must register for all 4 weeks. Please bring a blanket for
your baby to lie on.
All workshops will be
held at 2330 Don Reid Drive
unless otherwise specified.

Kindergarten Information Session—Nepean Sportsplex 1701 Woodroffe Avenue Halls A & B
Will your child be beginning Kindergarten in September 2017? Are you trying to decide which school board
will best suit your child and family? Come out for an evening of information before kindergarten registration
begins. There will be representation from the 4 school boards as well as the private schools in Ottawa and
you will have the opportunity to ask questions. You will also get information about the various resources
available to you and your family in your community.

This program will teach fun strategies for learning math everyday as a family. Together, we will learn how to
use everyday objects and situations to learn basic math skills. Math is everywhere!
(Supper will be provided on weeks 3 and 6) Must register for all sessions.
Understanding and Coping with Children's Misbehaviour
For parents/guardians and/or caregivers.
What are the hidden messages behind misbehaviour? We will discuss the latest brain research, the role of
stress, sleep, nutrition, parental expectations, and positive communication in reducing and coping with
challenging behaviours.
Family Literacy Day Celebration
Join us at one of our playgroup locations as we celebrate literacy together! There will
be activities, songs and books for all to enjoy.

emotional triggers and your child’s and find better calming techniques and solutions to create more

UNDERSTANDING AND COPING WITH CHILDREN’S MISBEHAVIOUR.

importance of a consistent routine.

Building Healthy Eating Habits: Loblaws in-store tour—Loblaws 2210 Bank Street
For children 3 to 6 years old and their parents/guardians and/or caregivers.
Become a skilled shopper and learn how to make better choices at the grocery
store! Join a registered dietitian as she brings you on this interactive and fun tour
where you will learn how to read food labels and make the best food choices for
you and your family while at the same time trying some interesting products.
Snacks and warm refreshments will be provided! Children will also get the opportunity to participate in a fun activity.

Join a registered dietitian as she shares how to successfully introduce solids to your baby. She will also
demonstrate how to make your own baby food as well as how to make feeding your baby fun and easy!
MindMasters 2—Parent Training
For parents/guardians and/or caregivers.
MindMasters 2 is a program that teaches simple and concrete ways to help children develop healthy emotions and deal with life’s challenges. Join a staff from CHEO as she goes through some background around
the resource and skills taught, activities that are used, hands on scenarios and concrete strategies and ways
that parents can use this resource at home with their children.
Sensory Exploration! (During Don Reid Baby Playgroup)
Babies learn about the world around them through sensory exploration. Come and explore
different sensory activities that you and your baby will enjoy together! No registration required.

The Wonder of Five Senses - 2 sessions to choose from
For children 3 to 6 years old and their parents/guardians and/or caregivers.
Young children learn about the world around them strictly through their senses. Children are experts at
learning with all five senses active. They make sense of their world by hearing, touching, seeing, tasting and
smelling. Please join us and get involved in various activities which use as many senses as possible and
observe how children learn by active involvement in experiences.
