Institut des Sciences Moléculaires Université Bordeaux I, UMR 5255 CNRS 351, Cours de la Libération 33405 Talence CEDEX, France OFFER: PhD / starting date September 2013 Design of surface chemical reactivity and optical properties in chalcogenide glasses In domains as vast as nano- or bio- technologies, the control of surface reactivity is a key point which largely influences the physical and chemical properties of the final systems. In numerous cases the ideal be to use “smart” substrates which chemical reactivity could be controlled at different scales. In addition, for applications such as bio-sensors or « lab on a chip » devices, this kind of substrate should permit an access as fast and sensitive as possible of the chemical information. In this global context, the present project aim to develop new glassy materials and new treatments allowing to design at the micrometer scale a chalcogenide glass surface in terms of its chemical reactivity and optical properties. The expertise needed for this multi-disciplinary project come from the collaboration of two labs of the University of Bordeaux (ISM-UMR 5255 and ICMCB-UPR 9048) and one laboratory in USA the CREOL from the University of central Florida. The PhD will be a co-tutelle between the University of Bordeaux and the University of Central Florida. The candidate should have solid experience in physical-chemistry, material science and optics. A very good level of English is also mandatory.
