Summer 2012 at Bordeaux Airport
Scheduled flights have helped boost traffic this summer:
870,814 passengers passed through the airport, up 12.6% on 2011.
For the year so far, the total number of flights is down 2.4%.

While July’s passenger figures (+11.6% on 2011) seemed to announce a promising
summer season for Bordeaux Airport, the numbers for August confirmed the trend
with an impressive increase of 16.2% on last year’s results.
Two slight disappointments were the relatively weak performance of chartered
holiday services in July, and a handful of destinations which have seen their numbers
drop off slightly. But despite the absence of an Air France hub, which accounts for
much of the growth seen at certain other regional airports, Bordeaux-Mérignac has
enjoyed an excellent summer: 870,814 passengers, almost 98,000 more than for
summer 2011 (+12.6%), with scheduled flights growing by 15.3% (nearly 18% in
August). This growth benefited both domestic lines(1) and international routes(2), with
numbers up 16.2% and 14.2% respectively compared to last summer (both up 17% in
August).
With new destinations added(3) and expanded services(4) to existing destinations
announced before the start of the season, the arrival of new carrier Volotea in the
spring and a more general expansion of our network of destinations, passenger
numbers have been very healthy. 329,700 passengers took low cost flights from
Bordeaux, up 44% on last summer (up 50% in August): budget airlines accounted for
75% of total growth this summer, with 75,850 passengers travelling on new
scheduled services.
Over the first eight months of 2012, Bordeaux Airport has seen passenger numbers
rise by 10% compared to last year. Meanwhile, the use of larger aircraft has allowed
us to reduce the total number of flights by 2.4%.

growth on routes operated by two companies: Marseille (Air France and Ryanair) and Nice (Air France and
EasyJet).
