COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT Press Relations PRESS RELEASE Paris, 16 November 2012 After 18 months of stability, the price of mail services will increase on 1 January by an average of 2.8% On 1 January 2013, after 18 months of stability, the price of mail services will increase by an average of 2.8%, i.e. below the rate of inflation, estimated by INSEE at 3% over the same period. This price increase will enable to maintain the high level of public service quality in conditions that will be specified in the next Public Service Agreement. It will also contribute to maintaining the overall balance of La Poste key factors as well as its social model. Within this framework, the savings proposed by Green mail will increase from 3 to 5 cents per letter, i.e. the priority stamp price will increase from €0.60 to €0.63, but Green mail will only increase by one cent to €0.58. La Poste launched Green mail one year ago. Delivered in 48 hours, Green mail is more economical and environmentally friendly since it is not transported by plane (except to Corsica and French overseas departments, of course). It was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% compared with Priority mail. Green mail meets a need – with already more than 50 million pieces of green mail delivered each month by mail carriers. La Poste delivers mail 6 days a week in one of the largest countries in Europe. For the large mail senders, industrial mail prices will increase by 1.8%. This moderate increase will follow the policy of lowering mail prices in constant euros for major Mail customers. The prices for “Destineo esprit libre”, preferred by SMEs, will only increase by 1.5% to make them more competitive in a difficult economic environment. The prices for “Destineo utilité publique”, an offering for officially approved associations and foundations to make themselves known, will not increase. These pricing evolutions for La Poste universal mail services are within the multi-year framework of the price cap set on 6 November by ARCEP (Autorité de régulation des communications électroniques et des postes - the French regulator of the electronic communications and postal sectors).
