BCGE – A historical treasure hunt through the city of
Geneva
Geneva, 1st July 2016 – In the context of the festivities celebrating its two hundred
years of existence, the BCGE is launching a mobile application to enable participation
in a clue-based game associated with the history of the bank, providing participants
with a fun journey across the city of Geneva. The BCGE is the first bank in Switzerland
to offer a trip like this using innovative beacon technology.
On the move… a fun trip
The BCGE is launching an application aimed at all Geneva lovers, residents or visitors who fancy
embarking on a different kind of cultural experience. Available on App StoreTM and Google playTM
platforms, the application, once downloaded, invites explorers to go to eight historical sites in the city
of Geneva, which can be discovered by solving the given clues. The application has been developed
in partnership with Swisscom.
Virtual treasures waiting to be discovered
To help the player get around the city, a map is included in the application enabling him to see a map
of Geneva in 1816 or in 2016, as he likes. At each location on the trip, there is a hidden virtual
treasure which the player then has to deposit at the bank, in front of one of the BCGE branches which
is on the mystery route. When all the locations have been identified, the player can then access the
key to the safe which allows him to take part in the prize draw.
Beacon-beamed innovation
For its application, particularly aimed at a young audience and families, the BCGE is innovating by
using beacon technology. Using a Bluetooth smartphone, the beacon is a small sensor which interacts
with the mobile phone when it is within range.
The BCGE is the first bank in Switzerland to make use of this technology is this manner.
