Church of Tomorrow
Your love never fails. You have made us what we are. Don’t give up on us now! Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Church of Tomorrow P sa lm 1 3 7 With all my heart I praise you, Lord. In the presence of angels I sing your praises. I worship at your holy temple and praise you for your love and your faithfulness. You were true to your word and made yourself more famous than ever before. When I asked for your help, you answered my prayer and gave me courage. All kings on this heart, have heard your promises, Lord, and they will praise you. You are so famous that they will sing about the things you have done. Though you are above us all, you care for humble people, and you keep a close watch on everyone who is proud. I am surrounded by trouble, but you protect me against my angry enemies. with your own powerful arm you keep me safe. You, Lord, will always treat me with kindness. Preghiera 15 As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. (From LUMEN GENTIUM, N° 9) “The messianic people has Christ as its head, ‘who was delivered up for our sins and rose again for our justification’, and now, having won a name which is above all names reigns in glory in heaven. The state of this people is that of the dignity and freedom of the sons of God, in whose hearts the Holy Spirit dwells as in his temple. Its law is the new commandment to love as Christ loved us. Its end is the kingdom of God, which has been begun by God himself on earth, and which is further extended until it is brought to perfection by him at the end of time, when Christ our life shall appear (...). So it is that the messianic people, although it does not actually include all men, and at times may look like a small flock, is nonetheless a lasting and sure seed of unity, hope and salvation of the whole human race. Established by Christ as a communion of life, charity and truth, it is also used by Him as an instrument for the redemption of all, and is sent forth into the whole world as the light of the world and the salt of the earth’’. [A meditation by Abp. Oscar Romero] It helps, now and then, to step back and take a long view. The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts, it is even beyond our vision. We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction of the magnificent enterprise that is God’s work. Nothing we do is complete, which is a way of saying that the kingdom always lies beyond us. No statement says all that could be said. No prayer fully expresses our faith. No confession brings perfection. No pastoral visit brings wholeness. No program accomplishes the church’s mission. No set of goals and objectives includes everything. This is what we are about. We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We provide yeast that produces far beyond our capabilities. We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that. This enables us to do something, and to do it very well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest. We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker. We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own. Amen. Pause for reflection Intercessions Let us pray that we may be truly thinking and feeling with the Church, that may have a heart at the dimension of the needs of the People of God: Our response will be: Spirit of God, dwell within your people. - For all the baptized, that the Christian people be filled with enduring love for God and the gospel of our salvation. Spirit of God, dwell within your people. - For the Church that gathers in humble surroundings; may these faith communities enjoy the rich gifts of the Spirit: Spirit of God, dwell within your people. - For the gift of gratitude, that everywhere God’s faithful people offer a joyful sacrifice of praise in union with Christ: Spirit of God, dwell within your people. - For the priests, deacons, ministers and catechists of the Church, that the Spirit bring to fulfillment the good work begun in them: Spirit of God, dwell within your people. - For those who labour to build a house for the Church, that their work and artistry may bring greater glory to God: Spirit of God, dwell within your people. Our Father … Glory be to the Father… AMEN.
