Friday - Ceilidh at Tignish Fire Hall at 7:30 p.m. - music, songs and dance. Saturday - Golf Tournament at St. Felix at 10:00 a.m. - $10,000 Hole-In-One. - Car Rally, Tignish Legion at 3:00 p.m. - $500.00 in prizes! - Irish Trivia at 7:00 p.m. - Irish Pub at 8:30 p.m. with Jimmy Sweeney and 10:00 p.m. with “Cork” - all takes place at the Tignish Legion. On Sunday, July 26 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. the Community of Tignish Shore will celebrate the Grand ReOpening of its Park, Fisherman’s Haven Park (no longer a provincial park). The day will be filled with awesome music by local artists and invited guests, with special guests, the cast of “Down at the Shore”. There will be lots of food, children’s activities, beach volleyball, fun and laughter! Kids, bring your shovel and bucket for the sandcastle contest and your kites to fly on the boardwalk. Maurice Bernard will be presenting his sandcastle art, there will be a mini-museum, 50/50, lottery draws and silent auction. 50/50 Bingo from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Community Centre. Bring your own chips. At 4:00 p.m. we will have a special ceremony: the newly renovated lighthouse will be dedicated to the memory of fishermen who lost their lives to the sea in our area. A monument with their names engraved will be unveiled. th PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS. Also, please note: there will be ABSOLUTELY NO VEHICLES PERMITTED ON THE BEACH for the safety of our children playing there. Canteen hours are 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. CLOHOSSEY 3RD ANNUAL ROAST BEEF BBQ Clohossey 3rd Annual Roast Beef BBQ Fundraiser in support of the Children’s Wish Foundation and Tignish Fire Department at Clohossey Farm in Nail Pond on Sunday, August 9th beginning at 2:00 p.m. Entertainment by Rock Bottom and local artists. Roast beef supper begins at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids (includes hot dog, drink and ice cream treat). If you are just listening to the entertainment, donations will greatly be appreciated. The next Dinner at the Palmer Road Hall will be Sunday, September 6th. 2009 CANADA GAMES: CULTURAL & ARTS FESTIVAL The Festival will take place Tuesday, August 18th in the Bi-Centennial Park in Tignish. Among activities, local entertainment, cuisine machine featuring a local recipe, facepainting, games and more! “Gadelle” and “Saddle River String Band” will provide music at the Parish Centre in the evening. È Tour of the Louis Michelle pipe organ at the St. Simon & St. Jude Church from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Presented in collaboration with the Canada Games Committee, Tignish Village and Le Conseil Rév. FELIX GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB Because Wednesday, July 22nd was rained out, we are offering one more Wednesday of fun days for ladies of any age wanting to come out to play golf. We had great turn-outs for the 2 already held. This is a no-charge with clubs, pull carts, etc. The next day is Wednesday, July 28 at 9:00 a.m., let us know on Tuesday if you are coming so we can make up the teams and please arrive by 8:45. On Saturday, August 1st is the Lucky Leprechaun Golf Tournament. This annual Tournament is a 4-person best ball, shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. Show up in your greens for a fun morning! Prizes, 50/50 draw and a $10,000 hole-in-one prize! Sign-up sheet in the shop or call 882-2328 to register. The first 72 names will be accepted. Single entries or team entries. Members are reminded to update their scores in the computer. You should have at least 15 recent scores for your handicap and to play in the club championship. All golfers paying a green fee throughout the remainder of the season will get a ballot to enter in a draw for a green membership for 2010. The GBS Program is now going into its fifth week and the children will soon be doing their testing so it is important they attend the remainder of the Program if at all possible. Monday, July 27th - Giant Bingo with three (3) $1,000 to go, Starts at 7:15 p.m. VETERANS MEMORIAL GARDEN The Tignish Legion has initiated a Project that is aimed at preserving the history and honouring those who have, or continue to serve our country. The vision is to create a serine garden plot with a walkway that will serve to remind us of the thousands who answered the call of duty. The Veterans Memorial Garden, as it will be called, will highlight the Army, Navy and Airforce, all with individually designed flower beds. The Veterans Memorial Garden will serve as a lasting remembrance, as well as an educational walkway for area students and youth groups to experience the sacrifices made for the freedom that we cherish today. The Veterans Memorial Garden will make a positive enhancement to the village and a proud community focal point. Donations are needed and can be made on behalf of any veteran. THE NEXT TUESDAY TALK AT THE ACADIAN MUSEUM FOCUSES ON EARLY ACADIAN SONG-MAKERS The next Tuesday Talk to be held at the Acadian Museum of P.E.I. in Miscouche on Tuesday, July 28th at 7:30 p.m. will focus on “Prince Edward Island’s Acadian song-makers of the 19th and early 20th centuries”. Folklorist Georges Arsenault will talk (in French) about Julitte Arsenault, Tom (Magitte) Arsenault, Isabelle Perry, Isaie Bernard and Léah Maddix and some of the interesting local songs that they composed. UNE CAUSERIE DU MARDI AU MUSÉE ACADIEN SUR LES COMPOSEUX DE CHANSONS D’AUTREFOIS La Causerie du mardi au Musée acadien de l’Î.-P.-É. à Miscouche le mardi 28 juillet à 19h30 s’intitule “Les composeurs et composeuses de chansons d’autrefois”. Georges Arsenault portera son chapeau de folkloriste pour parler (en français) des Acadiens et Acadiennes de l’Île qui composaient des chansons au 19e siècle et dans la première moitié du 20e. Il sera notamment question de Julitte Arsenault, de Tom (Magitte) Arsenault, d’Isabelle Perry, d’Isaie Bernard et de Léah Maddix. Des rafraîchissements seront servis. TIGNISH CAPSITE The Tignish CapSite will be holding a Kids Computer Camp starting Monday, August 3rd to Friday, August 14th. Camps start at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Daily admission is $10.00 per child which includes a nutritous snack and a craft to take home everyday! Activities include sign making, t-shirt designs, scavenger hunts, crafts, games and prizes to be won! Also on Wednesday, July 29th to Friday, July 31st there will be a Mini-Computer Camp. You can drop in to learn about the upcoming week of Computer Camp. There will be activities for these days. Daily admission is $10.00 per child with snack included.
