RED CLAY BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL
The Red Clay Bluegrass Festival will be held this weekend, August 16th, 17th, and 18th, at the Heritage property
on the Chaisson Road. Great entertainment all weekend. Come one, come all!
CONVERSATIONAL FRENCH CLASSES
Have you been wanting to learn French or even become fluently bilingual? Collège Acadie Î.-P.-É. is offering
classes in conversational French at the Centre acadien de Prince-Ouest starting the week of September
16th. The course is one evening per week for 11 weeks for a total of 33 hours. Registration deadline was
August 16th but we are continuing to accept applications. A placement test will be done following
registration to determine at which level the student will begin (there are 10 levels in all, from Beginner to
Advanced, as well as a Maintenance course). To register, go to http://www.collegeacadieipe.ca/

SENIOR’S DANCE - AGES 45+
The next senior’s dance at the Centre acadien de Prince-Ouest will be on Saturday, August 17th, from 9:00
p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Entertainment by Dwayne Doiron and Michael Myers. Cost is $6. Come out for a good
time!

ST. FELIX GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
 The 14th Annual Gerard Gallant Memorial Golf Tournament in aid of the Heart & Stroke Foundation will be
held on Sunday, August 18th. Shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. Tee times available after 1:00 p.m.
 Women’s Night continues on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. and Men’s Night on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. (Please
note change in time). On Monday, August 19th, Mark Roberts will give a half-hour of free instructions before
play begins. This will be his last night.
 Members are reminded to have scores updated in computer for the Club Championship to be held on
Sunday, September 8th. First round beginning at 9:00 a.m., then followed by 2nd round.
 The 14th Annual Corporate Golf Challenge in aid of the Children’s Wish Foundation will be held on
Sunday, September 15th. Shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.
ROYAL STAR FOODS - TIGNISH FISHERIES
The hours of operation for the Fishmart are Sunday, from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, from 9:00
a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We have oysters, mussels, quahogs, fresh
frozen bar clams, and fresh fish. We have live lobsters for the month of August.
MOTORCYCLE RUN
There will be a Motorcycle Run in aid of the Tignish Health Centre and M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk
Drivers) on Sunday, August 18th. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the Run starting at 1:00 p.m.
from the Alberton Rink. Poker hands available. The Run will end at the Tignish Health Centre with prizes and
food to follow. Come out and support these two great causes!
50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY - ELLSWORTH
Friends and family are invited to come celebrate the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Shirley and Dick Ellsworth”,
at the home of Nicole and Mitch Illsley, located at 40 Dunbar Road, in Alma, on Sunday, August 18th, from
4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
BENEFIT - ARSENAULT
There will be a benefit for Gary Arsenault (Mosey), husband to Marilee Arsenault of Waterford, at the Tignish
Legion on Sunday, August 18th, at 7:30 p.m. Gary was diagnosed with Amyloidosis and Multiple Myeloma in
July 2012. Since then he has been traveling for doctor appointments and dialysis. This July, Gary traveled to
Halifax to begin the process for a Stem Cell Transplant. The Stem Cell Transplant will begin August 26 th. Gary
will be admitted to the hospital for up to two months, where his wife will be spending this time by his side. There
will be an auction, silent auction, 50/50 tickets, fudge sale, lottery, canteen services, and lots of music. Please
come out and show your support!
ST. LOUIS COMMUNITY CENTER – NIGHT OF MUSIC

THE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
The Coopérative de développement culturel et patrimonial de Mont-Carmel will be presenting their summer
series of concerts at the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall, every Sunday evening until August 25th. This Sunday,
August 18th, singer-songwriter Meaghan Blanchard will appear on stage as well as Adrienne Gallant,
accompanied by Zakk Cormier and Shane Arsenault, and singer-songwriter Jean-Eudes Gallant. In addition, the
group Les Pieds Rythmés (Renée Gardiner, Mélodie Jordan, Loren Enman, and Bryanna Sharkey) will dance to
the music of fiddler Peter Arsenault. Admission is $7 for adults, $4 for students, and free for pre-schoolers.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and show starts at 7:00 p.m.
LA SÉRIE DE SPECTACLES POUR TOUS!

estivale de spectacles musicaux à la salle paroissiale de Mont-Carmel à tous les dimanches jusqu’au 25
août. Ce dimanche 18 août, l’auteure-compositrice-interprète Meaghan Blanchard montera sur scène en plus

A PIECE OF THE ROCK (THE NEWFIES)
An evening of great entertainment highlighting country, Irish, and Newfoundland music with the band “A Piece of
the Rock”, featuring Chuck Sinns and Wince Saunders, at the Palmer Road Community Center on Friday,
August 23rd, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Admission is $10. Door prizes and open bar.
REGGIE CHAISSON MEMORIAL WASHER TOSS TOURNAMENT
The 3rd annual Reggie Chaisson Memorial Washer Toss Tournament will be held on Sunday, August 25th, at
the Miminegash Ball Diamond (on the right side of the Harbour). Registration will take place from 12:00 p.m. to
1:00 p.m. for anyone ages 14 and up. Cost is $10 per person. Teams will be drawn from hat. Cash prizes will
be given out and barbeque on site. Come on out, have some fun, and show your support for the Miminegash
Fire Department!
TIGNISH HEALTH CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING
The Tignish Health Centre’s Annual Meeting will be held on Monday, August 26th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Tignish
Health Centre. Refreshments following the meeting. Everyone is welcome.
COMMUNITY OF MIMINEGASH
The Miminegash Community Centre and Fire Hall is an EMO (Emergency Measures Organization) site where
you can go for help in the event of an emergency or disaster such as a flood, power outage, ice storm, etc. This
is a designate area where people can go to obtain first aid, water, and other necessities during an emergency.
KIDS OF STEEL TRIATHLON CAMP
A Kids of Steel Triathlon Camp is being offered at Mill River Aquaplex from Monday, August 26th, to Thursday,
August 29th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., for children age 5 to 15. This program will introduce children to the
sport of triathlon (swim suit, bicycle, helmet, and sneakers are required) and will be followed by a mini-triathlon
event from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29th. Cost is $10. Contact [email protected] or

 The winners of the Veteran’s Garden Lottery draw were Randel Perry, winner of the quilt, and Maurena
Richard, winner of the drill.

KIDS WEST – WELCOMES BACK THEIR FAMILIES
 Wow, it is that time again children……. when school is fast approaching and Kids West playgroups will start
again. Starting September 9th, Kids West will also be offering playgroups in Tignish every Monday from
10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Tignish Village Office. Please come join in the FUN!!! We also have locations
in Tyne Valley, O’Leary and Alberton.
 Kids West provides education, support, and hope to children (aged 0-6 years) and their families by providing
awareness of services available to them and by putting into place those services that are missing in our
communities. We offer parent, family and child focused programming, free of charge. The Kids West Staff
are looking forward to having you come play at our centers.
