RETIREMENT – Warrant Officer Jason Verge – ATIS Tech
WO Jason Verge will be retiring from the Regular Force on 15 Jan 16 after 25+ year of
loyal and distinguished service with the Canadian Armed Forces.
WO Verge enrolled in the CF as RADAR Technician on 09 August 1990 in Corner
Brook, Newfoundland and was posted to Kingston after completing basic training in
Cornwallis. After completing the Performance Oriented Electronics Training and his
TQ3’s as a 231 RADAR Technician, he was posted to Greenwood, Nova Scotia in Feb of
1992.
While is Greenwood, WO Verge worked at IFRCC; primarily on Navigational Aids such
as Area Surveillance Radar, Secondary Search Radar, TACAN, Precision Approach
Radar, and Canadian Costal Radars systems at Barrington and Sydney. When the 200
series trades amalgamated in the 1996 WO Verge became an ATIS Tech. In the 1998,
WO Verge became heavily involved in IT and started working at the workshops and
eventually moved to the SYS ADMIN and Network Cell. After doing this for a couple of
years WO Verge was posted to Colorado Springs in 2001. At Colorado Springs, WO
Verge supported Canadians working for NORAD all through out the USA where he
provided IT support for both DWAN and Classified systems.
In the summer of 2005 WO Verge was posted to Detachment Gander, Newfoundland and
worked on various SIGINT systems such as Long Root, Mediator, Sea-diver, Lookout
and Tidy Tips. During this time he also did a tour to Alert as the Tidy Tips and Long
Root Tech in the winter of 2005/2006. WO Verge was posted to Leitrim in 2008 and
became Special Systems Shop Supervisor. During this time he did a tour in Alert as the
TMS in 2008/2009. After returning, he than started the training for his tour in
Afghanistan which he completed in Aug 2010 and worked as SATCOM Tech in Kabul,
providing deployable Satellite Comms for NATO all over Afghanistan.
WO Verge was posted to Tinker AFB in Oklahoma in 2011 and worked as an Airborne
Radar Technician on the AWACS jet and did a 6 month tour in Curacao in 2012. WO
Verge was posted to DGAEPM in Jun 2015 and worked in R&CS as LCMM for GCA2000 and PAR-2000 radar systems.
WO Verge and his wife Meredith will remain in Ottawa and he will continue to serve the
CAF. He has accepted a Class A position working at CFSACO in Cornwall, On. He has
opted for a quiet luncheon with his section peers.

L’adjudant Jason Verge prendra sa retraite de la force régulière le 15 janvier 2016 après
plus de 25 années de service loyal et distingué au sein des Forces Armées Canadiennes.
L’adjudant Verge s’est enrôlé à partir de Corner Brook Terre-Neuve, en tant que
technicien radar le 9 août 1990. Il s’est alors dirigé vers Kingston après son séjour à
Cornwallis. Il a complété le Cour d’Électronique Orienté vers la Pratique puis son NQ3
231 Tech Radar. Sa première mutation a été à Greenwood Nouvelle-Écosse en février
1992.
Durant son séjour à Greenwood, l’Adjudant Verge a travaillé à l’aérodrome.
Principalement sur l’entretient des systèmes d’Aide à la Navigation tels que les Radars de
Surveillance de Zone et Secondaire, TACAN, Approche de Précision, ainsi que les radars
côtiers de Barrington et Sydney. Lorsque les métiers 200 se sont amalgamés en 1996,
l’Adjudant Verge est devenu un Tech SITA. En 1998, il était très impliqué dans le
millieu informatique où il s’est établi pour ensuite migrer vers la gestion de réseaux. En
2001, l’Adjudant Verge est transféré à Colorado Springs. À Colorado Springs, il a fourni
le soutient informatique RED et Classifiés à tous les canadiens affectés au
commandement NORAD partout aux États-Unis.
À l’été de 2005, l’Adjudant Verge a été muté au Détachement Gander, Terre-Neuve. Son
travail est maintenant diversifié dans le domaine des systèmes SIGINT, tels que Long
Root, Mediator, Sea-diver, Lookout et Tidy Tips. C’est durant cette période, dans l’hiver
2005/2006, qu’il a complété un tour à Alert en tant que technicien des systèmes Long
Root et Tidy Tips. L’Adjudant Verge a été ensuite transféré à Leitrim en 2008, d’où il a
mené la section des systèmes spéciaux. De nouveaux, il retourna à Alert où il occupa le
poste de TMS entre 2008/2009. Dès son retour, il débuta l’entraînement en prévision
d’un tour en Afghanistan. Il sera un Technicien de Communication Satellite à Kabul
pour le soutient des Forces de l’OTAN déployé partout en théatre d’opération. Il
compléta son tour en août 2010.
L’Adjudant Verge a été alors transféré à Tinker AFB dans l’Oklahoma en 2011 où il a
travaillé comme Technician Radar Aéroporté sur les avions AWACS et compléta un tour
à Curaçao en 2012. Il a été finalement muté au DGGPEA en juin 2015, avec le directorat
des Systèmes de Communication et Radar, en tant que gestionnaire d’équipements radars
d’approche de précision, GCA-2000 et PAR-2000.
L’Adjudant Verge et son épouse Meredith vont demeurer à Ottawa. Il va continuer son
service dans les FAC comme réserviste où il a accepté une position à l’École des
opérations de contrôle aérospatial des Forces canadiennes à Cornwall, Ontario. Il a opté
pour un départ discret en présence de membres de sa section.
