Royat
Spa town at the foot of the Chaîne des Puys and looking out
over the prefecture of Clermont-Ferrand, Royat is a bit like
Auvergne’s equivalent of Deauville. With its casino, luxury
hotels, stately villas & homes and Royatonic, this lively town
has real character. Go up and admire the Paradis restaurant,
and especially the fantastic views over the lower town to the
Plaine de la Limagne. This luxury restaurant perched like an
eagle’s nest over Royat reflects the grandeur of the ancient
spa town, which has managed to retain its character from
years gone by.

It’s impossible to contemplate a weekend in the Puy-deDôme without climbing to the top of this volcano, which is
to Auvergne what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris! From its 1,465
metre summit, it looks out over the Chaîne des Puys, with
breathtaking 360° views. And you can travel via the Panoramique des Dômes railway to the top effortlessly! And why not

Roches Tuillière et Sanadoire
From the viewpoint indicator, these two volcanoes appear to
loom up from the depths like sentinels and rise up over the valley. Sanadoire owes its name to the rock you find here, which
makes a sound when it is struck, and Tuillière to its columns
which fragment into sheets, which were once used as roof
coverings.
Lac du Guéry
Between two sections of purest happiness and with bends
all over the Massif itself, Auvergne’s highest lake (1,224 m)
awaits your attention during a well-deserved stop-off in the
countryside! And if you feel like stretching your legs, there’s a
path which goes around the lake.
Le lac Chambon et Murol
Arriving at Lac Chambon is a great opportunity to enjoy a
really nice break on a terrace, or do a bit of sunbathing on
one of the wonderful beaches here! Or you might be tempted
by a tour of the lake on foot (1 hour) or by canoe, pedalo or
windsurfer. And in the background, the imposing Château de
Murol looks out over the entire valley.
Don’t miss:
Château de Murol: open for visits and guided tours
by the Paladins du Sancy. An unusual visit taking you
back to medieval times. Tel.: 04 73 26 02 00

Puy-de-Dôme
It’s time to go travelling again - www.auvergne-moto.fr
nknown and secret Auvergne, familiar only to those in the know, starts here! A real delight for motorcyclists! With ascents and bends all over
the place, it’s very imposing and there are great views of the volcano chain and the mountains of Le Forez. The forests of Le Livradois have the
pleasant smell of cèpe, girolle and morel mushrooms, and freshly cut wood, in addition to the wild flora and fauna, bilberries and, of course, arriving
in Ambert, the famous Fourme d’Ambert, which will delight foodies with a large slice of Auvergne right on their plate!

Montpeyroux
Classified as one of France’s “Plus Beaux Villages”, Montpeyroux is one of this department’s pride and joys, drawing many
visitors throughout the year. This is a village full of artists and
craftsmen, perched on its “Mont Pierreux”, and from the top of
its medieval keep there are amazing views over the Chaîne des
Puys and the Massif du Sancy. And along its alleyways, with
houses built from arkose stone, enjoy the winemakers’ homes
and old and imposing town houses, testament to the prosperity
brought about by winemaking during the last century.
Plateau de Gergovie
Location of the famous battle between the Gauls, led by Vercingétorix, and the Romans, led by Julius Caesar, this is where Vercingétorix’s helmet proudly sits. A natural panoramic viewpoint,

with myriad colours. Tourist Office: 04 73 79 42 98
Royat
Spa town at the foot of the Chaîne des Puys and looking out
over the prefecture of Clermont-Ferrand, Royat is a bit like Auvergne’s equivalent of Deauville. With its casino, luxury hotels,
stately villas and homes and fitness centre, this lively town has
real character. Go up to admire the Paradis restaurant, and
especially the fantastic views over the lower town to the Plaine
de la Limagne. This luxury restaurant perched like an eagle’s
nest over Royat reflects the grandeur of the ancient spa town,
which has managed to retain its character from years gone by.
Don’t miss :
Casino de Royat : after a few dicey moments coming
out of the bends, you’re bound to be feeling lucky!
For people who like one-armed bandits, various table
games and poker, maybe tonight will be your lucky
night? Dinner-show on Friday nights - 04 73 29 52 52
Royatonic : after a thrill-packed trip, it’ll be really
nice to come back and relax with a bit of fitness in the
thermoludic centre with its sanHoa institute, with its
amazing décor!
Tel. 04 73 29 58 90 - www.royatonic.com
Parc thermal et parc Bargoin : with the gentle sound
of the Tiretaine river flowing through the town centre,
Royat’s two parks are perfect for little breaks in the
greenery, as well as for picnics and morning jogging.
Festivities:
Festival Pyromélodie: weekend in late June. Explosive
and entrancing. For one weekend, Royat lights up
brilliantly for the international fireworks competition,
with various countries competing against one another;
a feast for the eyes and ears!

Clermont-Ferrand
On your motorbike and in town, Clermont combines all the good
things inherent to a large urban metropolis, but still one which is
reasonably-sized! The terraces of Place de Jaude and Place de la
Victoire, where it’s nice to do a spot of sunbathing with the sound
of the fountains in the background and people strolling around,
from Gaillard to Delille and not forgetting the pretty pedestrianised alleyway winding through the city centre and going up to
the cathedral, la Rue du Port, la Rue des Gras, la Rue de la Treille,
le Café des Beaux Arts, le Marché St-Pierre and plenty more.
During the day, Clermont has a Dolce Vita feel, a place where it’s
nice to lose yourself and then work out where you are again! And
once the sun has set behind the Puy de Dôme, standing guard
over the city, it takes on a new light, with bars, pubs, restaurants,
theatres and cinemas tuning themselves to the city; a city that
is well known for its cultural vitality. With rock evenings at the
Coopé and the city centre bars, rugby for anyone who fancies
it, an international short film festival, Europavox concerts and
dance floors for the energetic, and plenty more besides, Clermont
dresses up in all its finery and sparkles with light, which you’ll be
able to enjoy until the early hours!
Don’t miss:
The gothic cathedral, the basilica of Notre Dame du
Port which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the
vibrant Place de Jaude which is home of the lavish
municipal opera. Tourist Office: 04 73 98 65 00
L’aventure Michelin : Another highlight is to find out
about the epic story of one of France’s most famous
brand names throughout the world. As people who
enjoy fine engineering and history, you’ll find it
fascinating. 04 73 98 60 60
