WARNING TO SKIERS Skiing, both in the backcountry and at areas, is a hazardous and dangerous activity that involves inherent risks. No matter how good or careful you are, YOU ALWAYS RISK INJURY ANDOR DEATH WHEN YOU SKI. Injury or death can result from simply falling down, impact with an object or person, avalanches, storms, cold weather, failure of equipment (including the release system), and/or from many other actions or causes, natural or man-made, foreseeable or unforeseeable. Ski boots are a key component of the ski boot/binding release system and may contribute to the risk of injuries and/or death. Many injuries are related to the function of the release system, including but not limited to injuries of the leg and the knee, however, EVEN A COMPATIBLE AND PROPERLY ADJUSTED BOOT AND BINDING CANNOT PROTECT THE SKIER IN ALL SITUATIONS. It is your responsibility to make sure that your boots and bindings are compatible, properly adjusted, and to understand the effects that bellowed boots have on the binding release system. 4HE SKIBOOTBINDING SYSTEM WILL NOT RELEASE AT ALL TIMES ANDOR IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES AND THIS MAY CONTRIBUTE TO OR CAUSE A SKIERS INJURY OR DEATH It is not possible to predict when the system will release or fail to release. Difficulties with release or retention can result from your skiing style, snow conditions, temperature, the incompatibility of your boots and bindings, the improper configuration, adjustment or settings of your boots and bindings, and/or wear, damage, or contamination of the boots and/or any component of the release system. SCARPA urges you to ski in control and within your limits, learn proper skiing techniques and safe backcountry travel skills, learn to recognize avalanche danger, use proper equipment that is fitted, installed, adjusted, and maintained at authorized SCARPA dealers and/or specialized ski shops by competent ski technicians, learn the limitations and capabilities of your equipment, obey the skier’s responsibility code, and always use common sense and good judgment. However, adherence to the RECOMMENDATIONS IN THIS -ANUAL, while likely to reduce the risk of injury or death, IS NO GUARANTEE OF THE SKIERS SAFETY. 3KIING AND THE USE OF SKI EQUIPMENT ALWAYS INVOLVES RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY AND OR DEATH TO THE SKIER 2%-%-"%2 9OU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS DECISIONS AND SAFETY Please refer to the SCARPA website at www.scarpa.com for the latest technical news, information, and warranty updates. WARNING For the sake of your safety, boots that have a plastic shell (whatever the brand may be) should be replaced at least every 3 years if used full time, or every 5 years if only used on weekends. FOR BEST RESULTS WITH YOUR NEW SCARPA BOOTS: 1) Have a professional technician assist with the sizing and fitting of your boots: proper shell-fit, custom mould liner, adjust cant and buckle. 2) Have a professional technician properly adjust your bindings to your new boots. SCARPA makes boots to fit many different binding standards (75mm telemark, NTN telemark, Alpine, Alpine Touring, TLT), care must be taken to ensure bindings are properly adjusted to your new SCARPA boots. 3) Do not disassemble, modify, or otherwise alter your boots. 4) Inspect your boots before each use. Do not use your boots if any parts (buckles, rivets, shell, tongues, sole, etc.) are missing, damaged or worn out. 5) Do not ski until all boot buckles are closed securely. 6) Remove snow and dirt from the points of contact between your boots and bindings prior to stepping into the bindings. 7) Avoid scuffing when walking in your ski boots, and avoid activities that would otherwise damage the boot sole such as hiking, climbing on abrasive surface, etc. 8) Walk carefully on slippery surfaces. 9) Transport your boots in a protective boot bag. 10) Wear socks of suitable size and thickness for the best comfort and fit in the boots. 11) These boots should be repaired and maintained only by an authorized SCARPA dealer. If you experience abnormal pain, numbness, or extreme cold in your foot, ankle, or lower leg area while wearing these boots, we recommend consulting your authorized SCARPA dealer for evaluation and service. MAKE SURE THAT THE SCREWS OF ALL THE COMPONENTS INSTALLED ON THE BOOT ARE PROPERLY TIGHTENED BEFORE EACH USE (BUCKLES, STRAPS, RACKS, CUFF, SOLES, BELTS, ETC.). MATERIALS SCARPA boots are made with a variety of high-performance plastics including PEBAX®, a special plastic with excellent mechanical, physical and chemical properties over a wide range of flexibility. s ).#2%$)",9 342/.' This is a normal occurrence, due to the natural oils contained in this material. Wipe boots with a soft wet cloth to remove. The pigments used in boot colouring degrade with long exposure to direct sunlight. Store boots in original box or away from direct sunlight. CONSTRUCTION SCARPA’s multi-injection boots balance ‘uncompromised’ power transmission and weight. In addition, multi-injection allows having the shell softer in sensible areas, like the instep, for better fit, or bellows for perfect flex. Even some TLT-compatible models feature an Ergonomic Bellows for incredible, natural flexing touring performance. These specific models require mounting an adapter Plate under the bellows (see SLIDE TLT ADAPTER notes). 01 LINERS 03 SCARPA-Intuition Liners: Light and warm, these heat-moldable liners are designed for maximum performance for each model boot. These liners are incredibly moldable, resilient, and supportive. No footbed is required - the foam is commonly used in orthopedic footbeds - though orthotics and footbeds fit well when molded. PlusFit® custom-moldable liners are proven from years of use and have set the standard for all custom liners to be compared. PlusFit® custom-moldable liners are proven from years of use and have set the standard for all custom liners to be compared. *See the “Heat-Moldable Liner Owner Manual” that comes with all Intuition and Plusfit liners for specifics on fitting/molding. CAUTION: When removing/reinserting liners care is required. Inspect shell/liner when reinserting to ensure that the heel tab of the shell is properly positioned. #/22%#4 72/.' 04 05 02 SLIDE TLT ADAPTER PLATE: LOW OR HIGH For maximum performance with TLT bindings, we recommend using a Slide TLT Adapter Plate with the TX Pro/Terminator X/F1/F1 Race & F3 boots. The HIGH adapter fits the VERTICAL FT + VERTICAL ST + VERTICAL RENTAL + COMFORT. 06 The aim of the Carbon plate is that of sustaining the boot at its flex point. It should be placed near the front part of the binding, in correspondence with the bellows of the shell. Use the bi-adhesive tape included. STRAP IN HARMONIC STEEL SCARPA’s straps in harmonic steel (figure 12) improve the wrap of the shell around the foot. Make sure that the straps do not rotate forwards (figure 14) and that they do not undergo movements that go against their natural position (see figure 13). 12 17 18 13 RIVET PROTECTION To prevent premature liner wear, apply supplied round adhesive patches directly over the rivet heads on the shell at least 12 hours before use so that the glue adheres properly (picture 17). 19 BUCKLE ADJUSTMENT Rotate the buckle hook assembly clockwise, or counter-clockwise to achieve the desired buckle closure tension (picture 18). Microadjustment permits a precise “fine tuned” tension for the best fit. The “Easy Lock” buckles have the mobile pulling pivot reduces closing effort )N ADDITION SOME MODELS HAVE an extension on the top buckle to accommodate a much larger range (picture 19). 20 14 SUGGESTION FOR EASE OF ENTRY: HURRICANE / TYPHOON / DOMINA BOOTS For easy entry of these boots, move all forefoot buckle straps forward as shown below (picture 13 & 14). This allows quick and proper positioning of the tongue (picture 16) and buckle straps. 15 16 MACRO ADJUSTABLE RACKS For larger increment changes in the boot’s closure circumference, move the rack position. Use hexagonal key. A tour-extension clip on the rack improves securing the buckle when walking. 21 HEEL RETENTION STRAP AND MID WIRE STRAP SCARPA’s Heel Retention Strap and Mid Wire Strap provide incredible heel lock for both skiing and walking. Threaded replacement cuff rivets are available, allowing for easy replacement using hexagonal key. Re placing worn in-step straps has never been easier. Using a 4mm hex, anyone can remove the cuff rivet at home or in the field. Care is required: brace the t-nut inside to shell to prevent stripping. 26 STRAP The Q-Link strap ensures that the foot is held properly in the shell, both while skiing and while walking. To release the buckle with integrated rack, turn the rack upwards (figure 22). To replace the wire or the wire protector, use the allen wrench supplied (figure 23). 22 23 LEASH ATTACHMENT RING ALL of SCARPA’s 75mm Telemark boots have a leash ring conveniently incorporated into the forefoot buckle. 24 27 25 POWERSTRAP / BOOSTER REPLACEMENT PowerStraps maximize the transmission of energy from the skier’s leg to the ski. The Booster Strap is an elasticized power strap that increases power and response even more, while eliminating shin-bang. It’s comes standard on certain models but is available as an accessory to up-grade any boot. Both straps are fixed to the cuff by a screw and have a right and left or the SCARPA logo should read the correct way. 28 SPOILER Typhoon and Skookum have a fixed plastic spoiler on the cuff (picture 29). It is easily adjustable in heights by using a PH3 screwdriver (picture 30). This spoiler is also available to retrofit on Domina boots, too. 29 33 30 F1 / F1 RACE SKI /WALK MECHANISM Incredibly quick transitions with single lever action. Three forward lean options: from 18° to 22° degrees. Unscrew mechanism and match to desired setting.. 31 F1 NEW CLOSING SYSTEM SCARPA has simplified the front closing system of the cuff thanks to the new rack. 32 SCARPA has simplified the front closing system of the cuff thanks to the new rack. 34 It is easy to adjust the length of the wire in order to optimize the wrap of the cuff around the foot. Loosen the screw using the 4 mm. allen key supplied and slide the wire outwards. 35 Re-tighten the screw, making sure that the wire is positioned in its seat. 36 CUFF DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE To remove the cuff of the F1 Race its enough to use the two allen wrenches included. Remove the inner boot and work from inside the shell. Place the first allen wrench on the external hexagonal screw of the cuff (see picture 1). Place the second allen wrench on the inside nut of the shell (see picture 2). Loosen the external hexagonal screw by holding the inside allen wrench. For the assembly, reverse the action and drive in the external hexagonal screw to the lock with the inside nut. The aluminium bar has a very low profile but is extremely strong, thus providing total support and absolute power. The inclination of the cuff can be customised by using the allen key supplied (figure 40). Use the reference marks on the cuff to set the same inclination on both boots (figure 42). 39 40 41 42 “SKI/WALK” MECHANISM In “WALK” position the different mechanisms allow the cuff to move freely for walking comfort (43-44-45). Lock the cuff into rigid “SKI” mode for downhill skiing (46-47-48). Some models have two positions (walk and ski) and some models have three positions: walk, and two ski positions with different forward lean settings. 43 44 45 46 47 48 CANTING ADJUSTMENT The cant affects the lateral positioning of the cuff relative to the foot to maximize edge control. Adjust cant using key (picture 39, A) furnished with the boots. 1) To unlock the mechanism, insert the hexagonal key (picture 39, A1) and turn slowly (counterclockwise) one and a half turns. Do not force the key. 2) Insert “U” key (picture 39, A2) turning slowly to modify the incline from a central/neutral position to different degrees towards inside or outside. 3) Once desired cant is achieved, lock the mechanism again by turning the hexagonal key (picture 39, A1) slowly (clockwise) one and half turns 49 49A 49B C TONGUES All SCARPA tongues can be replaced and, depending on model, different tongues may be available for different performance characteristics. Our walk tongue offers unrestricted forward flex for touring/walking while our ski tongue offers incredible stiffness for maximum energy transmission.
