 PETER GREENAWAY ARCHITECTURE FOR A NEW CINEMA Conférence Jeudi 19 avril 2012 à 19h (en anglais) Dans le cadre du cours « Architecture Éphémère » de Brent Patterson en semestre 5 Peter Greenaway, né au Pays de Galles, est un écrivain, réalisateur et peintre. Il a suivi des études de peinture à Londres pendant quatre ans et a ensuite commencé à réaliser ses propres films en 1966. Il a continué à faire du cinéma de nombreuses façons, ce qui a en partie influencé ses installations pour le Palazzo Fortuny à Venise, la Galerie Joan Miró à Barcelone, le Boymans –van Beuningen Museum à Rotterdam, le Louvre à Paris, le Rijksmuseum à Amsterdam, le Palais d’Hoffburg à Vienne, la Pinacothèque de Brera à Milan et le Park Avenue Armory à New York. Il a travaillé et collaboré avec les compositeurs John Cage, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, Wim Mertens, Louis Andriessen, Goran Brekovic, Giovanni Sollima et David Lang, et a parcouru le monde avec ses performances intitulées The Tulse Luper Suicases VJ. Il publie régulièrement et écrit pour le théâtre et l’opéra. Son premier long métrage Meurtre dans un jardin anglais, sorti en 1982 est salué par la critique et a fait de lui un personnage reconnu sur la scène internationale comme l’un des réalisateurs les plus original et important de notre temps ; une réputation ensuite consolidée par les films suivants : Le cuisinier, le voleur, sa femme & son amant ; The Pillow Book et plus récemment La ronde de nuit et le documentaire Rambrandt’s j’accuse. Mercredi 18 Avril à 19h le Ciné Club de l’ESA projettera le film Le cuisinier, le voleur, sa femme & son amant. PETER GREENAWAY ARCHITECTURE FOR A NEW CINEMA Conference Thursday 19 April 2012 at 19h (in English) In conjunction with Brent Patterson’s semester 5 course 'Ephemeral Architecture' Peter Greenaway is a writer, a filmmaker and a painter. He was born in Wales and educated in London. He trained as a painter for four years and started making his own films in 1966. He continued to make cinema in a great variety of ways, which also influenced his making of installations for the Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, the Joan Miro Gallery in Barcelona, the Boymans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, the Louvre in Paris, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Hoffburg Palace in Vienna, the Pinacoteca of Brera in Milan and in New York’s Park Avenue Armory. He has worked and collaborated with the composers John Cage, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, Wim Mertens, Louis Andriessen, Goran Brekovic, Giovanni Sollima and David Lang, and toured the world with his Tulse Luper Suitcases VJ Show. He regularly published books and wrote for the theatre and opera. His first feature film, The Draughtsman’s Contract, completed in 1982, received great critical acclaim and established him internationally as one of the most original and important film makers of our time, a reputation consolidated by the films; The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover ; The Pillow Book and most recently by Nightwatching and the documentary Rembrandt’s J’Accuse. On Wednesday, April 18 at 19h ESA’s Ciné Club will screen the film The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover.
