ZPN’s (David Muipatayi) path confirms all the passion that inspires him, while revealing an exceptional
creator. As a multi-talented artist, unifier, producer, rapper, this author, composer and performer draws on the
wealth of his Congolese (ex-Zaïre) origins and of his country of adoption, Canada, to bring us a distinctive
sound.
ZPN has exported his music and the Hip-Hop culture beyond borders. At a very young age his passion for
music had forever made an impact on his life. With a diploma in public relations and legal assistance, he now
lives on his art and has spent all of his energy on it for several years now. The adventure started in 1999,
when he took part in the “Tout Nouveau Tout show” competition and reached the finals, something a rapper
form his region (Outaouais) had never done before.
He later won the public’s award of La Première chaîne de Radio Canada , 90.7 FM, as well as the Coup de
Cœur award of the Festival Musique en nous awarded by the festival’s director, Michel Séguin.
Most certainly, ZPN did not stop there. In 2000, with three young people of the area (Lynx XX, Olympe and
LB4life), the group Afro Connexion was created. In March 2002, they release a first album called “Le Son de
l’Afro”, and win, one year later a “Trille Or” at the Gala de la chanson et de la musique franco-ontarienne in
the category Discovery of the year. But Z, as he is commonly called by those close to him, was at the same
time continuing his solo career and had, among other things, the honour of being invited to sing one of his
compositions for the opening of the Festival Franco-Ontarien in 2002. He was also invited to perform for
Radio-Canada’s 50th anniversary in September 2002. In 2003, he delivers “Le Masque de Z”, his first opus,
and one year later, in September 2004, his album is nominated in the category Hip-Hop album of the year at
the Gala de l’ADISQ 2004. In March of the same year, Le masque de Z is nominated at the Gala des prix
Trille Or in three different categories: album of the year, award-winning song and video clip of the year.
Producer of the Z Show in Outaouais, he starts in 2005 this festival which provides assistance to developing
Hip-Hop artists. Back in 2006, with record attendance, ZPN confirms the growing interest of the public by
inviting the great ones: L’Assemblée Acrophone, Rainmen, KulchA ConnectioN and many others. In 2011,
ZPN returns full force with his third album PREMIÈRE CLASSE.
His most recent single #TOKYO released this September is a Club Bang! 100% guaranteed!!
