*—/*•—"Conseillante Ce vignoble, inchange depuis sa creation sur le
fameux plateau de Pomerol, est propriete de la famille Nicolas depuis 1871
Actuellement la cinquieme generation avec le Conseil de Famille compose
de Bertrand, Jean-Valmy et Henri Nicolas, gere le Chateau, marquant ainsi
la continuité et l'attachement d'une famille a un vin, un terroir Voisin de
Petrus, de I Évangile, face a Cheval Blanc, sa réputation est ancrée comme
les racines des cepages de ses 11,8 hectares
A l'occasion des Primeurs, Jean Michel Laporte directeur depuis 2004 et
responsable de la gestion opérationnelle du domaine, recevait chaque
dégustateur personnellement en leur offrant de decouvrir une verticale du
chateau, avec en millésime d'introduction « of course » le 2010, puis la
succession de 2009, 2005,2000,1990, pour finir en apothéose sur le 1945,
une mise de negoce Maîs, mon palais (NDLR) restait avec enthousiasme
sur le 1990 en magnum, une pure splendeur '
Pour le millesime 2010, nous pouvions goûter un 80 % de Merlot et 20 %
de Cabernet Franc au rendement similaire a 2009 - d'environ 39 hecto
litres a l'hectare ll se presente sur la puissance, la fraicheur couplée d'une
certaine distinction « Nous élaborerons 86 % de grand vm cette annee au
heu de 95 % a notre habitude Nous restons toujours adeptes des malo
lactiques en cuve et d'un élevage maitrise dans 85 % de barriques neuves
2009 avait permis de consacrer 100 % de barriques neuves au vm de
la Conseillante Pour moi, le 2010 est proche du 2005 par sa fraicheur
apportée par les Cabernet, sa concentration et son equilibre » explique
J M Laporte
Précurseurs de l'inox a Pomerol avec l'un des plus vieux cuviers (avec celui
de Figeac) sur la rive droite, et désireux d'exprimer encore mieux ses
terroirs, le Chateau de La Conseillante lance cette annee un vaste chantier
pour l'adaptation et la modernisation de celui ci II intégrera le découpage
parcellaire des 18 microparcelles en se dotant de 22 cuves La mise en
activite de cette installation est prévue aux vendanges 2012 Elle permettra
d'accentuer la precision à la vinification des lots et d'opérer un choix plus
judicieux dans l'assemblage final Maîs cette conclusion technique n'aurait
pu voir le jour sans le travail préliminaire de Jean Michel Laporte une
maîtrise des rendements, la recherche de la maturité optimale, une
selection rigoureuse a l'entrée du cuvier, une politique de replantation, une
viticulture raisonnee, un programme depuis cette annee de « confusion
sexuelle dans la vigne*» et la creation d'un second vin, Duo de la
Conseillante Sans compter les replantations orchestrées pour maintenir
une moyenne d âge des vignes de trente ans
Au niveau des chais, en partenariat avec l'ISVV de Bordeaux et le Groupe
tonnelier Seguin Moreau, le Château a suivi l'évolution d'un lot de vin dans
quatre barriques « Icone » sur les millésimes 2009 et 2010 « II est vrai que
cela donne plus de rondeur une meilleure el plus rapide integration des
tanins du bois dans k vm Maîs cela reste expérimental car cela ne représente
que 2% du volume en 2010 » précise Jean-Michel

Ce process, travail de longue haleine de 12 ans avec
expérimentation « en live » depuis quatre ans dans
certains chais, est base sur une selection de bois de
chêne destine a la fabrication des barriques par ana
lyse chimique Un procede de selection correle a un
resultat organoleptique significatif, perceptible et reproductible de I élevage afin de valoriser le caractère
unique du vm, de façon identique millesime apres
millesime Le but étant de déterminer un profil des
bois pour un vm en particulier
Jean-Michel fait aussi partie du club « Pomerol
Séduction », un club de neuf Pomerol associes pour
la promotion de leur vignoble Beauregard, Chnet,
Clos du Clocher, La Conseillante, Gazin, Mazeyres,
Petit Village Rouget et Vieux Maillet Leur objectif
un etat d esprit des vins de Pomerol pour vehiculer
une meilleure connaissance des terroirs et vins de I appellation et ce depuis 2006

bordelais ll chateaux se sont associes dans lappettation
Pomerol pour une pose groupée de diffuseurs de confusion
sexuelle des papillons cochylis dans le but de limiter leur
reproduction et leurs larves qui attaquent les raisins

there is cause for célébration in the
Pomerol appellation with the 141st
anniversary of the creation, the excellence
and the dedicated passion to the terroir of
Chateau La Conseillante This vineyard,
unchanged since rts creation on the famous
plateau of Pomerol, has been owned by the
Nicolas family smce 1871 The fifth gene
ration of the Family Council, composed of
Bertrand, Jean Valmy and Henri Nicolas,
currently manages the Château, marking
the contmuity and commitment of one fa
mily to a wine and ils terroir A neighbour
of Petrus and L Evangile, and sitting opposite Cheval Blanc, ils réputation is as es
tablished as the roots of ils 11 8 hectares
of vmes
Dunng the en primeur period, Jean Mi
chel Laporte, Director since 2004 and
responsible for the estates operational
management, welcomed each laster personally, mvitmg them to a Château La
Conseillante vertical tasting, with, by na
rural way of introduction, the 2010 vintage,
followed by the 2009, 2005, 2000 and
1990 and finishmg in a blaze of glory with
the 1945 a trading bet But my palate (editer s note) hngered with enthusiasm over
the 1990 magnum pure splendeur'
For the 2010 vintage, we enjoyed an 80%
Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc with a

Pioneers of stamless steel in Pomerol
with one of the oldest vat rooms (with that
of Figeac) on the right bank and eager to
hetier express the character of its terroirs,
Château La Conseillante is launching,
this year, major works to adapt and mo

subdivision of the 18 micro-plots and
the acquisition of 22 vats This facihtv is

As for the cellars, in partnership with
the ISVV de Bordeaux (Institute of Vme
and Wine Sciences of Bordeaux) and
the cooperage group Seguin Moreau,
the Château momtored lhc progress of a
batch of wine in four Icône barrels for the
2009 and 2010 vmtages lt is true that ths
gives more roundness, along with better and
foster integration of the tannins into the
wine But this is still expérimental as it only
represented 2% of the volume in 2010,
explams Jean-Michel
This long process lastmg 12 years with four
years of 'live' expérimentation in some cel
lars, is based on the selection by chemical
analysis of the oak wood to be used in the
manufaclure of the barrels It is a method
of selection that corresponds with a sigmficant, perceptible and reproducible or
ganoleptic resuit from the agemg process
in order to enhance the unique character
of the wine, identically for every successive vintage The goal is to détermine a pro
file of wood for a spécifie wine
Jean Michel is also a member of the
Pomerol Seduclion club, a club of nine
Pomerol producers lhat have teamed up to
promote Iheir vmeyards Beauregard,
Clmel, Clos du Clocher, La Conseillante,
Gazin, Mazeyres, Petit Village, Rouget
and Vieux Maillet Their goal is, and has
been since 2006, a sensé of Pomerol wines
to convey a hetier understanding of lhc appellalion's terroirs and wines
