Conference 2016 V.1 4.27.2016 French 1.2
9h00 – 10h00 Cérémonie d’ouverture 10h00-11h00 La montée en puissance de l’Afrique Session présentée par Bernard Azria, Directeur Général, Côte Ouest Audiovisuel (détails de la session à venir) 11h00– 11h30 Driving Digitalization via Satellite New research revealed in the annual Africascope report produced by TNS Sofres shows a buoyant TV market in French-speaking African countries and the increasing marketshare of the EUTELSAT 16A satellite, one of the key TV satellites for West Africa. Majority of TV homes in the region are already receiving TV programs via satellite and this will further increase in the future. Distribution via satellite has the advantage that it can reach anyone and that it is not limited to specific infrastructures on the ground. In addition to its cost –efficiency and unlimited reach, satellite is also the primary delivery way for cable and IP-based reception. Cable and Telecom operators are receiving the majority of the TV channels from satellite, turn them around at the receiving head-end and feed them into the networks. Satellite is also ideally placed in the merging world of TV and Internet. Satellite offers a variety of solutions to enjoy content anytime and anywhere by combining the best of both worlds – satellite being used for “one-to-many” and IP for “one-to-one” applications. The presentation illustrates how Eutelsat can support broadcaster to grow globally as well as locally. Presented by Nicolas Baravalle, Regional Vice President, Eutelsat 11h30 – 13h00 African Pay-TV operators dealing with the arrival of DTT Francophone Africa has nearly fifty Pay-TV operators working legally. At present, they pay no publishers, nor pay back VAT or other tax or license to their States. Yet in Cameroon alone, it is estimated that they are giving work to up to 100,000 people. Therefore, it’s difficult to ignore them. Some actors, aware of the necessary evolution of their fragile economic model make efforts to try to get closer to international publishers on the one hand, and to mutate their models to adaptive technology on the other. To do this, they organize themselves into unions. * Does the "good- enough" have a future? * Which conversion models for these fragile economic models? * The cable, an important technology for the future of pay TV in Africa? *Technology or content legally operated, what priority?
