Word/picture cards representing the months Use picture cards for less able children 2. Ask the children to name the 4 seasons in English. Say the words in French. Put an action to each one (see left) – ch copy. 3. Practise new vocabulary explaining how to say ‘in the spring’ (au printemps) etc. Use mood cards for variation. Mood cards 4. Give each child a card representing a month (word or picture). Display a heading on board for each season. Ask ch eg. who has a summer month? (Qui a un mois d’été ?) Ch come to front and match up their month card to the correct season. Word/picture cards representing the months 5. T calls out a month. Ch respond with the action for the season. 6. Form a chain. Four children are the seasons. The rest of the class have a month card. The four seasons circulate round class whispering their season repeatedly. Children who have a month in that season say their month and join up with them. Continue until there are no more ‘free’ children left. Month cards 6. Learn a simple poem – see left. T reads first, ch respond to familiar words (seasons). This can then be acted out by the whole class, or with four groups, each group saying and acting out one ‘season’ www.momes.net 7. Play ‘Pass the Parcel’. A bag containing a month card is passed round class/table to music.
