OCTOHPERA est une formation brésilienne des plus intéressantes ! Le premier album
"Bons Amigos" (2002) débute de la meilleure manière, par des polyphonies vocales que
n'auraient certes par renié GENTLE GIANT ou SPOCK'S BEARD. Le tout avec la chaleur
toute particulière de la langue portuguaise. Puis la musique arrive, et confirme toutes les
promesses entrevues dans ces premières secondes à capella. Les compositions s'inspirent du
symphonisme typique de l'école sud-américaine, tout en étant transcendées par une inspiration
et une interprétation remarquables. Les parties de guitare acoustiques peuvent évoquer Steve
HACKETT: rien d'étonnant lorsque l'on se rend compte de l'influence prépondérante qu'a pu
avoir le grand GENESIS sur nos cinq musiciens. En résumé, l'on peut dire que ce coup d'essai
s'est métamorphosé en un coup de maître, ce qui place de fait son auteur en position de leader
naturel de la nouvelle vague du rock Progressif au Brésil. Jolie performance ! Et si nous
avions fini par mettre la main sur le ECHOLYN latin ?
OCTOHPERA is a Brazilian band worth investigating ! The first album "Bons Amigos"
(2002) begins quite good, with vocal polyphonies GENTLE GIANT or SPOCK’S BEARS
would have been proud of. Add to this the warmth of the Portuguese tongue. Then comes the
music, that confirms the potential shown in those first seconds a capella. Tracks are
reminiscent of the so-called typical South-American symphonism, and are magnified by
remarkable inspiration and playing. Acoustic guitar parts could remind Steve HACKETT:
that’s no surprise as we realize how much influence the great GENESIS had on our five
musicians. To conclude, one can say that this first attempt evolved in a masterpiece, and that
also means that its author could be regarded as a natural leader of the new wave of
Progressive rock in Brazil. A great achievement ! Couldn’t this eventually be the Latin
ECHOLYN ?
