The peacefulness is back, The flower blooms once again. The bee hums The wind blows ever so softly. In and out of trees. It whistles The heather is strong in one place, Softly moving Mountains in the distance, snow peaked, And majestically standing with blue sky, Behind them with shining sun, Shining on the dry, red rock, Covering the vast, dead, droopy landscape. The trees are gloomy once again. Another storm hits. Windy, stormy, wet again Thunder roars and lightning flashes The place is destroyed, For glaciers have covered the land This is the Canadian Shield. by Gigi Martin Grade 4/5, Timberlea Public School WORDS IN MOTION 2013 2013 Poems from Elementary School and Kindergarten Students (English Translation) Être malade Being sick Être malade ce n’est pas amusant On a besoin de médicaments J’ai plusieurs raisons Pour rester à la maison Being sick is no fun We need medicine I have lots of reasons To stay home La gorge me fait mal Je deviens sale Plus de bain, je lave mes mains hands My throat hurts And I become dirty More baths to take, have to wash my by Sébastian Imbeault Grade 3, Ecole Boreal ***** Fire In The Sky Look at the strange flicker In the deep dark sky! Now blazing brightly, I wonder What? How? Why?! Illuminating the still quiet of my mind, With colors of the fluorescent kind. Swiftly swaying to and fro, In seconds and moments the designs grow. They rip up and down the seam, Even if they're the colour green. They come in all shapes, sizes and brands, But please remember they don't expand. Always have your zipper zipped, And if there's one have your button clipped. You might buy jeans that are way too tight, And to get them up you might have to fight. They're worn by the oldies and us preteens, And that's all you need to know about jeans. by Dana Barfoot Grade 6, St Martha’s Catholic School ***** Jumping Monkey There once lived a jumping monkey and jumping he would always be He fell off a cliff Because he was stiff Now jumping he will never be by Heet Grade 4, Timberlea Public School WORDS IN MOTION 2013 2013 Poems from Elementary School and Kindergarten Students La nature Les fleurs sont belles de toutes les couleurs. Leaves, leaves, touch the ground. The trees will soon be bare. I wish I did not care. And soon winter will be here. I will try not to shed a tear. Leave, leaves, sleep all day, Until you have a sunny day. Blow, blow, blow away. “It is not time to go,” I say. Please keep the cold north winds away, Just, for a few, more days. The soft wind is blowing, as it leaves. The strong wind blows. Pushing her back. The wind is blowing the trees back, making their branches bare. The sun starts to shine among the clouds. Making the strong wind die away. She walks to the warm peaceful river. The wind is back. The sunshine, the warm quiet sun starts to fade away. The wind. Making the rivers water rapid. Making the sky darker than it already was. The wind gnarled at her. Blowing the pine needles off of the pine trees. She sees the mountain. The sun setting in bright, but mild colours. She sees the stars. As the strong wind blows, she notices the beautiful surroundings around her. The bright white daisy petals gripping to live. The droopy pine trees breaking slowly. The wind is becoming weaker. A beautiful sight she sees. A lunar eclipse. The beautiful colours of day, with the mysterious darkness of night. A beautiful sight it was. She closed her eyes as the soft wind blew. The smell of pine trees made her relax. She soon fell fast asleep. Good night. by Sydney Sinclair Grade 4/5, Timberlea Public School WORDS IN MOTION 2013 2013 Poems from Elementary School and Kindergarten Students Winter Night The fluffy snowflakes gently fell I heard a faint ring, the church bell The light pole flicked a dim light In the sparkling crystal night by Hailey Fraser Grade 6, St Martha’s Catholic School ***** Winter’s Fine With Me Some people in Fort McMurray don’t like the weather, Some people say it is too cold! I don’t mind the weather, I think its fine. I could build snowmen 6 months out the year. Santa needs the cold for his sled and reindeer. When all the leaves fall off the tree, I can’t wait to climb the hills and go sledding. If I get to cold, I can drink hot coco! After a long day outside in the snow, The best thing I know, Is to read my favourite book by the fire. If I go outside to skate, I go inside to warm up, And that’s great! I don’t mind the weather, I think its just fine. Some people don’t like winter, Maybe they just like to complain? But, I can’t wait for summer Because spring weather brings So many things…. to do outside! by Felicia Milton Grade 3, Father Turcotte School
