Les treize étudiants de la première promotion du Mastère
Spécialisé TOS ont intégré à LYON, le lundi 3 octobre 2011, cette
nouvelle formation lancée à l’initiative de l’AFTES, pour un cycle
de 5 mois de cours et projets et 5 mois de mission en entreprise.
Ce Mastère Spécialisé de la Conférence des Grandes Ecoles est délivré en
co-accréditation par l’INSA de Lyon et l’ENTPE, en partenariat très étroit avec
l’AFTES et le CETU. Il a obtenu le Label de formation internationale de l’AITES,
ainsi que le soutien du Syndicat Professionnel des Entrepreneurs de Travaux Souterrains. Il s’agit d’une formation post graduée de niveau BAC+6, constituée
d’enseignements de haut niveau technique et scientifique, volontairement intégrés
dans une approche globale donnant une vision d’ensemble des projets de travaux
souterrains. Son objectif est de former des professionnels ayant à la fois des
compétences solides sur les divers aspects techniques du domaine, et une bonne
connaissance de la démarche globale de conception des ouvrages souterrains,
depuis les phases très amont d’élaboration et de conception jusqu’à la réalisation,
la maintenance et la gestion/exploitation des ouvrages 1.
Après sélection sur dossiers et audition directe ou par visioconférence d’une
vingtaine de postulants à cette première session, le jury a finalement retenu treize
candidats représentant 10 nationalités.
Conformément à la vocation de cette formation, Il s’agit soit de jeunes ingénieurs fraîchement diplômés, soit de jeunes professionnels du génie civil
souhaitant se spécialiser dans le domaine du souterrain, soit, mais dans deux
cas seulement (CETU et Eiffage), d’ingénieurs détachés de leur entreprise ou
organisme.
Thirteen students made up the first intake for the Specialised
Masters in Tunnels and Underground Structures, a new course
launched at the initiative of AFTES in Lyon on Monday, October
3, 2011, for a five-month cycle of classes and projects followed
by five months on placement in a company.
This Specialised Masters is delivered by the French Conference of Graduate
Schools and co-accredited by the Lyon INSA and the ENTPE National School of
Public Works, in close collaboration with AFTES and the CETU Tunnels Study Centre. It has also received the ITA’s international training certificate and the support
of the Professional Association of Underground Works Contractors. Students on
the one-year postgraduate course have already completed five years of higher
education or equivalent and will be studying highly technical and scientific subjects, deliberately incorporated into a more global approach providing an overview
of all underground works projects. The aim is to train professionals who will have
well-formed skills in the field’s various technical aspects, as well as familiarity
with the overall approach to the design of underground structures, from the
earliest stages of conception and design through to construction, as well as
maintenance, management and operation of the completed infrastructure 1.
Selection was carried out on the basis of applications, followed by interviews
conducted either face-to-face or by videoconference. From the score of applicants, the selection board finally chose thirteen candidates representing a
total of ten nationalities.
In line with the aim of this course, the intake is made up of recently qualified
engineers, young civil engineering professionals seeking to specialise in

Il est à souligner que cette première session du Mastère Spécialisé TOS a pu
ouvrir grâce à :
• la forte implication des membres du groupe de travail de l’AFTES qui a élaboré
ce projet,
• l’implication de nombreux intervenants professionnels dans les cours et
l’animation des différents modules d’enseignement,
• et enfin le soutien financier de l’AFTES, du Syndicat des Entrepreneurs de
Travaux Souterrains, de la Fondation ITACET ainsi que de diverses entreprises
ou ingénieries (le CETU, EIFFAGE, RAZEL, EGIS tunnel) qui ont contribué aux
frais d’inscription de certains étudiants.
La leçon inaugurale du Mastère a été donnée par le Professeur
André Assis, ancien président de l’AITES et président du
Comité ITA-CET, le lundi 17 octobre dans le cadre du Congrès
International de l’AFTES au palais des congrès de Lyon.
Intitulée « Urban Tunnelling: Constraints and Challenges » 2 ,
cette conférence a obtenu un grand succès en rassemblant,
outre les élèves du mastère, un auditoire de plus de 150
personnes.
Après une période de cours intensifs, les étudiants vont attaquer un projet de grande ampleur ayant pour thème le passage
sous fluvial du prolongement de la ligne B du métro de Lyon
vers Oullins.

A number of factors have enabled this first session of the Tunnels and
Underground Works Masters to be launched:
• a strong commitment on the part of the AFTES Working Group which
developed the project
• a high degree of involvement on the part of many professionals in the
classes and various teaching modules
• the financial support of AFTES, the Professional Association of Underground
Works Contractors, the ITACET Foundation and a number
of contractors and engineering firms (CETU,
EIFFAGE, RAZEL, EGIS tunnel), who helped cover course
fees for some students.

A l’issue de cette première période de cours et projet, les étudiants effectueront
à partir de mars une mission en entreprise de 5 mois, qui sera concrétisée par
la préparation de leur thèse professionnelle. t
The inaugural lecture of this Masters Class was given on
Monday 17th October by Prof. André Assis, past-president
of ITA and president of the ITA-CET Committee, in the
course of the AFTES’ Congress in Lyon. This lecture, entitled “Urban Tunnelling: constraints and challenges”, was a
great success with more than 150 attendants, excluding
the students.
After an intensive program of courses, the students will start
working on a large scale project related to the undercrossing
of the Rhône River for the extension of the Lyon Metro Line B to Oullins.
Then, in March 2012, after this period of lessons and project, the students
will have a 5-month course in a construction company, to be implemented
by a professional thesis. t
