therefore exists between these two Archean groups. A similar
development occurred in the type area of the Temiskaming
group, in the Kirkland Lake-Larder Lake area of Ontario.
CURRENT PROGRAM
The current program was designed to uncover the
contacts of a major syenite dyke intruding host felsic to
intermediate volcanics. Minor outcrops, and shallowly buried
subcrop, over a strike length of approximately 100m were hand
stripped and washed with the aid of two, 2" pumps.
A 120m Baseline was chained along an azimuth of
N168 0 E, along the main access road; one 50m cross-line was put
in westerly from 0+70S.
Results of this work are shown on the accompanying
Geology Map. The work was carried out by Ovalbay Geological
Services Inc, under the supervision of Andreas Lichtblau.

DETAILED GEOLOGY
An area of approximately IBOmXIOOm was detail mapped
in May, 1996. At this locality, an ENE trending syenite dyke
has intruded well foliated felsic lapilli breccia. Previously,
syenite dykes were only known from the Temiskaming group; this
occurrence demonstrates the possibility of finding similar
dykes in the Archean volcanics to the south. Previous work by
INCO (1987) returned a grab sample from the general area
running 1.76ppm Au; the syenite dyke was not recognised,
however.
The syenite dyke, or sill, is exposed across a width
of about 70m. Contacts are generally N75 0 E, dipping steeply
south, parallel to regional foliation. The dyke itself is
undeformed but is veined and fractured, especially near the
northern contact.
Mineralogically, the syenite comprises up to 40%
lmm-2mm milky Plagioclase, set in a dull pink, fine grained
feldspar-rich matrix.
The
northern
syenite/volcanic
contact
shows
interdigitation,
on
a
1m-5m
scale,
of
strongly
deformed/foliated felsic lapilli tuff and syenite dykes (see
Detail Geology Map) . Hairline to mm-veinlets of quartz and
quartz-carbonate
with
trace
pyrite,
occur
roughly
perpendicular to the contacts, and dip approximately 55 0 W.
Veinlets are numerous and occur with a frequency of one every
5cm-20cm.
Approximately 5m of strongly deformed and contorted
mixed felsic tuff, mafic dyke and quartz vein material were
exposed by washing the western limits of the study area. A
plunge of strong mineral lineation was noted at 50 0 towards
N180 0 E,
within
a
general
schistosity
dipping
68 0 S.
Disseminated pyrite to 1 ^ l ocally was noted.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The discovery of a gold-bearing syenite dyke
intruding Archean volcanics, outside the usual Temiskaming
assemblage, is of considerable importance. Well documented
discoveries, such as the "I" Zone, of gold-bearing ladder
veins in syenite dykes, are hosted by Temiskaming type units,
such as
Iron formation.
A large area of potential
mineralization has therefore been opened-up for future
exploration.
Known syenite dykes in the Temiskaming on the same
claim group can extend for 1km along strike; a total of only
100m has been mapped on this discovery. Further work along
strike is strongly recommended. Channel sampling of showings
uncovered during the current program is also highly warrented.

LOCATION AND ACCESS
The Property is located 60km WNW of the city of
Thunder Bay, in Duckworth (G-638) Township (see Figures). The
eastern, northern and southern portions of the property are
accessible by a network of all weather gravel logging roads.
Diamond drill roads and ATV trails provide access to the rest
of the property.
INCO's Shebandowan Mine and Mill complex is located
10km WNW of the claim block. All the logging roads branch from
a main access road, which itself branches from the secondary
paved road accessing the Shebandowan Mine. This latter road
joins Highway #11 some 6km to the north.
The area of claim TB 786756 under question lies
approximately 6km south of the INCO Shebandowan road, and
straddles the main logging road of the area.

LOCAL GEOLOGY
The property is underlain by the Archean Shebandowan
Greenstone Belt of the Wawa Subprovince of the Canadian
Shield. The oldest units on the property comprise felsic tuffs
and minor mafic flows underlying the southern portion of the
claim block. It is believed tops are to the south, although
deformation
and hydrothermal
alteration
have
obscured
relationships considerably.
The northern portion of the property is underlain
by a 1.5km wide succession of late Archean, Temiskaming-like,
sediments, alkalic volcanics and iron formation. This group
is believed to have formed as erosional products of the
underlying volcanics, deposited in elongated, rift-controlled
basins. These basins formed after initial deformation and
uplift of earlier volcanic edifices. A major unconformity
