The origins of Thanksgiving :
In 1620, a little ship sailed to America. It was The Mayflower. There were around 100 people on
board.
Some of the people who sailed to America were called the Pilgrims, they came from England and they
wanted to have their own church.

En 1620 un petit bateau est parti pour l’Amérique. Il s’appelait le Mayflower. Il y avait une centaine de
personnes à bord du navire.
Parmi ces personnes à bord il y avait les Pèlerins (The Pilgrims). Ils venaient d'Angleterre.
Ils voulaient créer leur propre église.
The journey on the Mayflower :
The Mayflower is a boat that took the Pilgrims from England to America. The voyage started in
September 1620, there were 102 passengers onboard.
During the voyage there was a leak in the ship and the crew had to fix it.
Onboard the living conditions were hard.
The Mayflower arrived in America more than 60 days later.

Le Mayflower est un bateau qui a transporté les Pèlerins de l’Angleterre jusqu’en Amérique.
La traversée commença en Septembre 1620, il y avait 102 passagers à bord du Mayflower.
Pendant le voyage, l’équipage dut réparer une fuite.
Les conditions de vie à bord étaient difficiles.
Le Mayflower arriva en Amérique plus de 60 jours plus tard.
The first Thanksgiving :
In the USA Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November. The first Thanksgiving was a
festival celebrated by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoags in 1621. The Indians shared their corn,
squash and wild turkey. This holiday wasn’t celebrated until ten years later. Thanksgiving was
declared a national holiday in 1863 by Abraham Lincoln.
