OBITUARIES
In Loving Memory of
Myrtle
DAVIDSON
NOVEMBER 2, 1918 – AUGUST 22, 2015
Myrtle Lydia
Davidson (nee Nelson)
was born to Fanny
and Eric Nelson on
November 2, 1918, at
Swan River, MB.
In 1923, she moved
with her family to
Dryden, Ontario, where
her father worked as
a carpenter and as a
sawyer. Then in 1928,
the family moved by train to Wadena and bought a
quarter-section of land northwest of town.
Myrtle made many trips down the CPR tracks to
attend school. Then after school, she helped at home
as her mother was ill and there were small children to
look after.
Later Myrtle went to work at the Wadena Union
Hospital in 1942 as a second ward aide. She
continued to work there until 1946. In the winter, she
went to look after her Grandma Lindquist in Dryden
and when returning to home to Wadena by train she
met her future husband who was coming back from
Toronto to work on the family farm in Nipawin.
On June 6, 1947, Myrtle married Archibald Henry
Davidson in Wadena. Together they farmed southeast
of Nipawin. After they sold the farm, they retired to
the town of Nipawin where Myrtle resided until her
health began to fail her. In 2005, she made her new
home in the Pineview Care Home.
Myrtle had many hobbies. She loved to knit
slippers, mitts, scarves, and toques. Also, often you
could ¿nd Myrtle writing. She had many booklets
made up of important family dates. It was amazing
how well she could remember names and dates. In
her earlier days, she enjoyed ¿shing, gardening, and
quilting.
Myrtle and Archie never had any children but
Myrtle was very fortunate when Sandra Smallboy
moved in next door to her in 1998. Sandra became
like a daughter to Myrtle and they established a close
relationship which she cherished right until her last
days.
Myrtle was predeceased by her parents; sister, Ella
Thorne and Alma Martin; brothers Werner, Kenneth,
and a brother in infancy.
Myrtle will be fondly remembered by her sisters,
Ruth Buchanan, Lily Elliott and Dora (Al) Gallenger;
brothers, Mickey (Barbara), Melvin (Marja) and
Albert Nelson, as well as numerous nieces and
nephews.
A memorial service was held on Friday, August
28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Coventry Funeral Chapel
in Nipawin with Pastor Darcy Cust of¿ciating.
Interment followed in Mabel Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Pineview
Lodge Resident Canteen Fund.
