Op 6 oktober is de regisseur Denis Côté uit Quebec te gast op
het Internationaal Festival van de Franstalige Film in Namen.
Hij maakt van de gelegenheid gebruik om tweemaal halt te
houden in Brussel. Op 4 oktober is hij in BOZAR en een dag
later in CINEMATEK, waar van 10 september tot 7 oktober
een volledige retrospectieve van zijn films plaatsvindt.

Denis Côté
De filmliefhebber en criticus Denis Côté (°1973) werd in 2005
wereldwijd bekend met zijn eerste speelfilm, Les états nordiques,
die op het festival van Locarno met de Gouden Luipaard werd
bekroond. De productieve regisseur (9 films in 9 jaar tijd)
wordt beschouwd als een van de meest gevierde figuren van de
‘nieuwe Quebecse cinema’. Denis Côté maakt zowel persoonlijke
films met vormelijke experimenten als toegankelijker films
waarmee hij een breed publiek bereikt. In zijn filmografie lapt
hij de opdeling in genres aan zijn laars. Hij laveert voortdurend
tussen fictie en documentaire, en neemt een loopje met codes
en kijkersverwachtingen. Maak kennis met de unieke visie van
deze moedige cineast en een francofonie die ver van ons afstaat.

Le 6 octobre prochain, le réalisateur québécois Denis Côté sera
présent au Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur.
Il profitera de l’occasion pour faire une double halte à Bruxelles, le
4 octobre à BOZAR, et le lendemain, le 5 à CINEMATEK, qui lui
dédie, du 10 septembre au 7 octobre, une rétrospective intégrale.
Cinéphile et critique de cinéma, Denis Côté (°1973) s’est fait
connaître internationalement en 2005 avec son premier long
métrage, Les états nordiques, récompensé par le Léopard d’Or au
Festival de Locarno. Réalisateur prolifique (9 films en 9 ans), il s’est
imposé comme l’une des figures les plus acclamées du « renouveau
du cinéma québécois ». Denis Côté produit tant des œuvres
personnelles à la recherche de l’expérimentation formelle que
des films plus accessibles, lui ouvrant la voie de la reconnaissance

Bestiaire, een groot succes op festivals, bestaat uit lange,
sierlijke shots over prachtige beestjes. Toch is het geen studie
over dierentuinen of de vermenselijking van dieren. Denis Côté
speelt meer dan ooit met de werkelijkheid en stelt vragen over
de verhouding tussen kijker en film.

the Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur. He
will take the opportunity to attend two Brussels events, on 4
October at BOZAR and on the following day, 5 October, at
CINEMATEK, which is presenting a complete retrospective

van Victoria en Florence, twee ex-gedetineerden en minnaressen

Florence, deux anciennes détenues devenues amantes qui
s’installent ensemble dans une cabane à sucre, dans le bois.

travail de scénariste à l’occasion d’une Leçon de scénario (13:30),

Belgian preview of his latest opus, Que ta joie demeure (selected for
the Forum section of the latest edition of the Berlinale) and will for
the occasion host a screenplay workshop (13:30), in collaboration
with SACD, in which he will elaborate on his work as a screenwriter.
Après leur rencontre sur internet, Milena, immigrée bulgare à
Montréal, et Philip, arrivant de Sofia, se retrouvent pendant une
semaine dans un chalet isolé. Nos vies privées, « film-expérience »,
est le récit de leur découverte intime et amoureuse.

une commande faite par le Festival International de Jeonju.

This film by Herzog influenced Denis Côté profoundly as a
film-maker. An escalation of violence and destruction during a
revolt of dwarfs in a remote institution.
After meeting on the Internet, Milena, a Bulgarian immigrant in Montreal, and Philip, newly arrived from Sofia, spend a
week in an isolated chalet. Nos vies privées, an experimental film
tells the story of their discovery of love and intimacy.
A study of masculinity and war, this medium-length film was
commissioned by the Jeonju International Film Festival. Faced with a
threat on the prowl in a forest, six armed men advance through it, day
and night, looking for a confrontation that is put off again and again.

Christian pleegt uit mededogen een misdaad en slaat op de
vlucht. Hij belandt in het afgeschermde dorp Radisson, waar
de weg ophoudt. Denis Côté draaide zijn eerste, bijna volledig
geïmproviseerde film in elf dagen tijd. Deze prent tussen fictie
en documentaire was een eerste uiting van zijn talent.

Een film van Herzog met belangrijke invloed op het werk
van Côté. Escalatie van geweld en vernieling bij een opstand van
dwergen in een afgelegen instelling.
