From the beginning the main topics published in this journal
have always been the materials and their evolution regarding to
their potential applications. The main question has always been:
what kind of materials for a given application? In this sense the
papers which are published are going from chemistry for the
definition or the conception of new materials to structural mechanics
to assess the lifetime of the structures which are made by using
these materials. Papers are focused on physical mechanisms
appearing in the materials when loaded and the link between
these mechanisms, the occurring degradations and the mechanical
properties. A special attention has always been made on the
different approaches which are use to characterize the materials:
what kind of test, the identification of mechanical parameters
and then the link with numerical simulation.
The different issues of this journal are composed of regular ones
which are composed of a selection of the best papers which are
reviewed and special issues corresponding to a focus on a given
theme or a domain which are considered to be crucial for the
community of people working or using materials.
