Soprano
Hélène Guilmette graduated in music education and piano from Université Laval and continued
her vocal training with Marlena Malas in New York City. After a 2002 third-place finish in the
Concours Voix nouvelles in Paris and a second-place finish in 2004 in the prestigious Queen
Elisabeth of Belgium International Competition, she made her professional debut as Pamina (The
Magic Flute) and Sophie (Werther) at La Monnaie de Bruxelles, and as Mélisande (Ariane et
Barbe-Bleue) and Amour (Glück's Orpheus and Eurydice) at Opéra de Paris with Les Ballets
Pina Bausch. She has also sung Susanna (Les noces de Figaro) in Lille, Montreal, Montpellier,
and at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; Thérèse (Les Mamelles de Tirésias) in Lyon and at Opéra
Comique in Paris; Sister Constance (Les Dialogues des Carmélites) in Munich and Nice; Oriane
(Amadis de Gaule) in Versailles and at Opéra Comique de Paris; Eurydice (Glück's Orpheus and
Eurydice) in Angers and Nantes; Pedro (Don Quixote) in Avignon and at the New National
Theater in Tokyo; Frasquita (Carmen) in Avignon; Papagena in Nancy; Nadia (La Veuve joyeuse)
at Opéra Comique; Hébé, Phani, and Fatime (Les Indes galantes) at Capitole de Toulouse;
Crobyle (Thaïs) and Servilia (La clémence de Titus) at Opéra de Montréal; and Mélisande
(Ariane et Barbe-Bleue) with Opéra National de Paris on tour in Japan.
Hélène Guilmette has also appeared regularly in concert, performing works such as Mozart’s
Mass in C Minor and Requiem; Handel’s Messiah; Oratorio de Noël by Saint-Saëns; Bach’s St.
John Passion and St. Matthew Passion; Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Stabat Mater, and Creation;
Brahms’ German Requiem; Mahler’s Symphony No. 4; and Poulenc’s Gloria. She recently sang
with countertenor Andreas Scholl in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at Théâtre des Champs Élysées,
and performed Handel’s cantatas at the Istanbul Festival and the Schubertiades in Schwarzenber,
Austria; Poulenc’s Gloria at Théâtre des Champs Élysées; Ariane et Barbe-Bleue at
Concertgebow Amsterdam; Haydn’s Creation and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with OSM;
Mozart’s Mass in C Minor and Handel’s Messiah with Bacchor Mainz at Teatro Colón in Buenos
Aires; Mozart’s Requiem with Les Violons du Roy at Festival de Lanaudière; and Mahler’s
Symphony No. 4 and Knoxville, Summer of 1915 by Barber with I Musici and in recital at the
Opéra de Paris Bastille Amphitheatre with pianist Martin Dubé.
Her discography includes Airs chantés by Poulenc, Hahn, and Daunais with French pianist
Delphine Bardin (Ambroisie), Duello amoroso (Handel) with Andreas Scholl and Academia
Byzantina (Harmonia Mundi), and Handel’s Dixit Dominus / Ode for the Anniversary of Queen
Anne with Academie für Alte Musik in Berlin (Harmonia Mundi).
