ENSIETA’s laboratories conduct research in mechanical engineering, signal processing, electronics, IT and automation, as well as in human sciences. This scientific cluster is formed by the following four research and development labs: > E3I2 laboratory, EA3876 (extraction and use of information in uncertain environments) The laboratory has developed a multidisciplinary research project to develop and deploy an information and support system for decision making in disturbed and changing environments. The laboratory has been organized into four teams: «Radar, Electromagnetism and Remote Sensing», «Sonar and perception of the underwater environment», «Data fusion and decision-making» and the «French Naval Academy’s ASM» group. Studies carried out deal with electromagnetic and acoustic modeling as well as extracting and using data from sonar and radar signals. Its hostteam research unit standing was granted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR) in January 2004 and renewed in January 2008. > LBMS/ENSIETA laboratory, EA 4325 (Brest’s mechanics and systems) The Erika and the Prestige oil spills are just two illustrations of how important the research carried out in the LBMS lab is, dealing with reliability of materials and estimating the lifetime of naval structures in the marine environment with all its specificities (phenomena of fatigue, shock and impacts, vibrations and corrosion). Research lecturers from ENSIETA, the University of Brest and ENIB work in this laboratory. It received the MESR host-team research unit label in January 2008. Working in partnership with ITII Bretagne, ENSIETA trains engineers through a 3-year sandwich course in «mechanical and electronic engineering» with two final year options: naval platforms or embedded systems. The curriculum is designed to train engineers who can assume operational duties in design offices, production or maintenance. The apprentice engineer works on projects in an enterprise, alternating periods of 2 months in school and 2 months in the company, then 6 months in school and 6 months in the firm during the final year. He or she is mentored by an engineer from the firm and a teacher from the school. This scheme is open to applicants holding a 2-year DUT or BTS degree (GEII, GMP, SGM, GTE, Shipbuilding, etc.). ENSIETA’s recruitment process is based on the application file (examined from 15 January to 15 April) followed by interviews. 30 applicants are admitted once a contract is signed with an enterprise. This course of training is also open as further education for salaried employees who hold a DUT or BTS degree and who have 3 years of work experience. (Approximate cost is 10K€, over 3 years, 1 200 hours). If you would like to have an apprentice engineer join your teams next September, send us your proposal by May at the latest. The pace of alternating work and study depends on the electives or specialization, comprising 8 weeks (not continuous) in the enterprise between 1 October and 15 February then 7 months from 1 March to 30 September. The young engineers then graduate in September. During the periods in the company, the student engineer works on a technical project that he or she will present as a Final Year Project in a written report and oral presentation in September. It enables you to measure the future engineer’s skills over a year’s time, while contributing to his or her training. It also complies with the obligation for French companies with over 250 salaried employees to employ part of their personal under contracts for professionalization or apprenticeships. The student becomes a salaried employee of the firm (with a short term or indefinite duration contract) and is paid at least 80% of the French minimum wage or that decided by collective bargaining. Not only does it enable us to improve learning conditions each year and increase our research potential, it gives you the opportunity to make an active contribution to the training of your future engineers and benefit from the profiles best suited to your firm. ENSIETA is authorized to receive the apprenticeship tax for the category of executives (C) and that of middle management staff (B) combined.
