THE SEAWAY AREA CHRISTIAN MEDITATION COMMUNITY announces the commencement of
a new meditation group. Come share in this spiritual path of Christian meditation, an ancient prayer
tradition rediscovered by Fr. John Main, a Benedictine monk (1926-1982) which is rooted in the
gospel, the letters of St. Paul and the Desert teachers of the 4th century. WHEN: Monday January
17th, 2011, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm WHERE: St. John the Evangelist, Anglican Church, Lancaster,
Ontario. A workshop will be given on Saturday January 29th, 2011 from 10am to 3pm. Please

Married Couples Day of Renewal
On Saturday, February 12th, 2011 at the Ramada Inn, in Cornwall, the Regnum Christi
movement is holding a special event for Married Couples. Program includes: Talks,
Dinner, Entertainment, and Mass. Registration is at 2:00pm. For more information

Knights of Columbus Membership Drive
Most of us probably feel just a little uncomfortable being singled out for praise. After all, doing a
good deed should be reward enough, shouldn’t it? Just the same, every so often it is a pleasure to be
able to recognize an individual for their contributions. And that’s just what the Knights of Columbus
in our parish are doing.
Saint Joseph Council in Lancaster is welcoming new members. If you are interested in becoming
a member please speak or call Fr. Jacques Labelle or the Grand Knight Paul Poirier, or in fact any
member of the council.
We hope to find some good strong catholic men in the parish who will join during the year of the
priest, and at the same time discover what membership in the K of C offers to their families. The
programs of Saint Joseph Council include: parish activities, commemorative service, communion
breakfast, community activities, high school bursaries, etc…. Current Knights are urged to find a
potential Knight and sign him up. Please remember we are looking for a few good catholic men
to help and serve their Parish of St. Joseph. Thank you!
SPAGHETTI DINNER
The Optimist Club is inviting you to a spaghetti dinner on Sunday, January 23rd, 2011 at
5:00pm at the Knights of Columbus Club, 205 Amelia Street, Cornwall. The cost is $10.00
for Adults and children 5 to 12 years is $5.00. Less than 5 years is FREE. Funds will go
towards Children’s Treatment Center, Infantile Cancer, and Canadian Children’s Optimist
Foundation.
Come and spend the morning with Christ! The next Women’s Morning of Reflection is Saturday
February 5th, 2010 from 9:30 am to 12:00 at St. Felix-de-Valois, 620 Glengarry Blvd., (behind Zeller’s)
The morning includes mass, confession, REFRESHMENTS, rosary and a talk. The topic this month

25th ANNIVERSARY OF ORDINATION TO THE PRIESTHOOD
Fr. Claude Thibault will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the
priesthood on February 1st. on Sunday, January 30th he will preside at a
bilingual Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 11h00. A reception in the parish
hall will follow until 15h00. Please join us for this celebration of Thanksgiving.
25e ANNIVERSAIRE D’ORDINATION SACERDOTALE

1. Pour être inscrit à la MATERNELLE, un enfant devra avoir atteint l’âge de quatre ans avant le
31 décembre 2011.
2. Pour être inscrit au JARDIN, un enfant devra avoir atteint l’âge de cinq ans avant le 31
décembre 2011.
 A l’inscription vous aurez besoin le certificat de naissance de la province, le certificat de
baptême, la carte santé, le carnet d’immunisation ainsi qu’une petite photo récente de votre
enfant. Il est aussi important que vous nous fournissiez l’adresse exacte de votre domicile, (lot,
rang, concession, numéro civique) afin de bien organiser les circuits de transport scolaire.
 Lors de la visite à l’école, vous pourrez visiter la salle de classe de la Maternelle/Jardin et
rencontrer l’enseignante ainsi que l’éducatrice de la “Petite enfance“.
 Nous vous prions de transmettre ces renseignements aux gens qui on des enfants d’âge
scolaire et qui n’ont pas d’enfant à notre école actuellement.


God Respects Human Dignity (catechetical explanation of human nature)
God's choice not to work alone teaches us an important lesson about human nature: we
are both dependent and independent.
 Other parts of God's visible creation are only dependent.
 Inanimate objects depend completely on the laws of physics and chemistry.
 Plants and animals also depend on the laws of biology.
 And animals depend further on instinct.
 In all those cases the dependence is total; the behaviour of those creatures has
been determined entirely by their Creator.
But human beings are only partially dependent on the laws of physics, chemistry,
biology, and instinct, because God has given us something he hasn't given any other
visible creation: a spiritual soul.
 In the first place, this means that we are self-aware, able to reflect on the
reality we experience.
 Only human beings write diaries.
 And because we have this self-awareness, we also have a large degree of
self-determination, also known as free will. This is where our independence
comes in.
 Birds act by instinct automatically, but human beings, reflecting on the
instinctual impulses they feel, can choose how to react - follow it, reject it, or
channel it.
Only because we are self-aware and self-determining are we able to know and love
each other and God profoundly. This is what it means to be created in God's image.
Original sin obscured this image. When Christ restored it, he was consistent. He had
created us with the capacity for self-determination, and he didn't take away that
capacity in order to save us - instead, he asked for our cooperation. By inviting us to
be coworkers in the Church's task of saving the world, instead of just doing it all
himself, he shows us the dignity of our nature, as well as his longing for our friendship.
