Sir Peter Michael specializes in only single-vineyard designated wines
produced from premium hillside vineyards. These opulent chardonnays
are aged in new French oak with constant lees stirring, but when tasted
they exhibit the nuances of the land where they come from. La Carriè

Is Silvio Jermann Italy’s best white wine maker? From the
northeastern part of the country, Jermann boldly
experiments with grapes and winemaking techniques,
resulting in cult-status wines such as the barrel aged
chardonnay in Dreams (inspired by a U2 song!) and a brilliant
blend of sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, and several
indigenous grapes fermented together in the mineral driven
Vintage Tunina.

Is Merlot Washington’s greatest red wine grape? In
this time of merlot apathy, Washington is still
producing some of the top examples from this grape.
Curious about the best? Leonetti and Woodward
Canyon were the first two bonded wineries in Walla
Walla and today produce some of the most lush,
fleshy, and utterly hedonistic examples of this classic
wine. www.leonetticellar & www.woodwardcanyon.com

Celebrate Washington Wine
Every year Seattle-area restaurants celebrate the Washington
wine industry, culminating in the premier wine event called
Taste Washington in March. This year we want to introduce you
to some of our Washington favorites with these great examples
of our state’s bounty for you to enjoy. Washington State has
over 700 bonded wineries, with a 3 billion dollar impact to the
state economy. Washington is the second largest producer of
wine in the United States. www.washingtonwine.org

DuMOL
California’s best kept secret: DuMOL
DuMOL.
OL In this day and age of
the term “cult winery” being tossed about every time a review is
written, DuMOL is the true definition of it. Very small
production, impeccable vineyard sourcing, and a humble
attitude all add up to the best California pinot noir you have
never heard of. Each of these exquisite wines is named after
cherished family members. www.dumol.com

1973 was an historic year for the great Bordeaux houses on the left
bank of the Gironde River. In that year Chateau Mouton-Rothschild
successfully changed status as established in the 1855 classification,
nd
st
moving from 2 growth to 1 , a feat which hasn’t been replicated
since. Then, in 1982, Chateau Mouton-Rothschild again became a
part of history. A little known wine critic, Robert Parker Jr., declared
the wine perfect and bestowed a 100 point rating. The artist label
commemorating this great vintage is the actor/director John
Huston.

In our opinion, the BEST malbec from this corner

Cité de Carcassonne IGP, 2012
22
From the Languedoc-Roussillon, this 100%
Cabernet Franc is a true delight
A blending partner in the Bordeaux region, Cabernet Franc
comes into it’s own in the Loire Valley of France. A close relative
to Cabernet Sauvignon (Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc are
said to be Cabernet Sauvignon’s parents) this grape is well suited
to the cooler climate in the Loire, specifically in Chinon and
Saumur-Champigny. Lighter in fruit and body than Cabernet
Sauvignon, this grape is revered for its aromatics. The wine is
incredibly heady and perfumed, with hints of violet and cassis.

If anyone embodies the promise and spirit of ‘The New Spain’, it’s
Alvaro Palacios. One of nine children born to the owners of Rioja’s
respected Palacios Remondo, Alvaro studied enology in Bordeaux,
while working under Jean-Pierre Moueix at Ch. Pétrus. He credits his
tenure at Pétrus for much of his winemaking philosophy and for
showing him “the importance of great wines.” From Alvaro’s original
vineyard, Finca Dofí is a blend of Garnacha, Cabernet, and Syrah.
Finca Dofí combines power and richness with great breed and
finesse.

Antinori
Antinori – one of Italy’s oldest wine families, and
perhaps one of the most recognizable. In the early
1970’s Antinori was experimenting with bold new
winemaking techniques and non-traditional grape
varietals spurring a phenomenon now known as the
Super Tuscans from the Chianti region. Solaia is a
Cabernet Sauvignon dominant wine with Sangiovese
and a touch of Cabernet Franc. www.antinori.it/eng/
