ABACUS, groupe anglo-allemand est né en 1971, a publié quatre albums chez Polydor et connu un grand succès
avant de se séparer en 1976. De retour en 1980 chez EMI, le groupe s’est à nouveau arrêté en 1983 après un album chanté en
allemand. Le voici de retour avec son cinquième album « Fire Behind Bars » ! Projet dirigé par le multi-instrumentiste
Jürgen Wimpelberg (chant, claviers, guitares, programmations), aidé de multiples invités parmi lesquels on citera R.Valet et
P.Terhoeven de Solar Project. Ces sept chansons plus un instrumental, sont une sorte de Pop-Progressif soigné et
impeccablement produit : l’expérience internationale du groupe et sa longue carrière passée y sont évidemment pour quelque
chose ! ABACUS développe des mélodies Pop qu’il fait peu à peu évoluer vers des contrées instrumentales grandioses, néoclassiques et symphoniques. Dans une veine qui peut rappeler Genesis, Greenslade ou Pink Floyd, ABACUS nous offre là un
progressif moderne et séduisant.

ABACUS, a German-English Progressive music playing band was founded in 1971, publishing 4 LPs on Polydor
Record label, produced in G. Moroder’s Musicland in Munich. They were celebrated on uncountable Rock festivals being a
steady institution next to ELP, Santana and Pink Floyd. Musical differences for forthcoming productions were decisive for
the band’s break in 1976. They reported back in 1980 with an EMI deal, but were foeced by their publishing house to write
German words for their next production. So they split again in 1983 after having done just one single in English. In 1997 at
last ABACUS met again to do some unpublished songs for their 5th long waited album “Fire behind bars”. This is a special
project led by the multi-instrumentist Jürgen Wimpelberg (vocals, keyboards, guitars, programming), helped by numerous
guests, let’s mention Robert Valet and Peter Terhoeven from Solar Project. This seven songs, plus one instrumental piece,
are a kind of Pop-Progressive music, carefully worked-out and produced, due to the long past career of the band. ABACUS
develops Pop melodies into a wide instrumental manner, with gorgeous neo-classical/symphonic sequences. In a vein near
Genesis, Greenslade or Pink Floyd, ABACUS offers a modern and attractive Prog’ Rock.
