J 81 The new genre of fêtes galantes ('courtship parties'), created by the French Academy for Watteau, and the 18th century aristocratic taste for exoticism and Orientalism are strong influences on this painting, the theme of which has sometimes been termed Turquerie galante. This painting of an Orientalist fantasy features a voluptuous female nude and a man in oriental dress.
