This smiling little boy holds a jumping-jack figure in jointed
wood, dressed as Pulcinella. In 18th century Paris, this hunchbacked character from the commedia dell’arte was a familiar
figure. The reign of Louis XV saw the creation of toys and
recognition of the world of childhood. Punchinello could be seen
in theatres and carnivals, and models were made for children in
the form of dolls and jumping-jacks.
