In order to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the magazine ELLE Décoration is
organizing an exhibition dedicated to design at the Musée d’Art Moderne de
la Ville de Paris.
Approximately thirty international young designers will expose their pieces of
work in the famous Dufy and Matisse Galleries. They will share the space of
major pieces of art work such as Raoul Dufy’s La Fée El ectricité, Henri
Matisse’s two monumental Dance triptychs, and a collection of Daniel
Buren’s canvases.
ELLE Décoration has e ntrusted Gérard Laizé, ge neral director of the nonprofit association VIA (Val orization of Innovation in Furnishing), to be the
exhibition curator. The EL LE Décoration team ha s designed the exhibition
with the precious help of Dominique Gagneux, curator of the museum who is
also in charge of the decorative arts collection.
The display perfectly captures the current international creative spirit in the
way the pie ces are functional, aesthetic, easy to move and m odulate, and
eco-friendly. It represents the formal expression of this ne w generation and
one answer to the essenti al question, which Gérard Laizé summarizes as
follows: “How to produce better instead of producing more?”
According to Sylvie de Chirée, editor in chief of ELLE Déco ration, “this
exhibition is the opportunity to expr ess our brand’s philosophy, since its
creation, of finding tomorrow’s successful designers and helping young
th
talents. Our 25 anniversary is the chance to demonstrate our credo!”
The exhibition will take place during
the second edition of Paris Design
Week, during which the city lives for design. The Musée d’Art Moderne will
have the opportunity to highlight the dynamism of the youn g international
creations.
On the “Journées du Patrimoine” (the 15th and 16th of September), visitors
will be greet ed free of charge by dedi cated lecturers, available to explain
each piece of work.

Thank you to Ikea, partner of the exhibition.
What makes Ikea’s support special is a common philosophy to put design within everyone’s
reach. This concept can be summarized as: producing better with the right price, making easy to
use objects without compromising their style, and finding how to be an eco-friendly producer.
These ideas make Ikea successful in 41 countries and allow the brand to meet each
generation’s needs.
