Design of Telecommunication systems installed on
oil and gas production unit
Abstract: The purpose of this report is to relate my six months internship within an oil
and gas engineering company called Single Buoy Moorings. It, first of all,
gives an overview of SBM with its history and strategy. Then, a state of the
art of Telecommunication systems installed on oil and gas production units
and a description of the FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading),
which is the major product of the company, are presented. Finally, the project
procedure is explained with my different achievements. After a training
period, familiarization with the equipment and the environment of the oil
telecommunication systems, the scope of my work contains specifications,
equipment lists, cable block diagrams, layouts etc.
This work placement allowed me to discover the telecommunication world in
the oil and gas industry. I also could enter the world of practical engineering
which demands a certain adaptability!

Résumé: Le but de ce rapport est de résumer le déroulement de mon stage ingénieur de
six mois au sein d’une société nommée Single Buoy Moorings dont le
domaine premier est la production de plateformes mobiles pétrolières. Le
rapport commence par une présentation de l’entreprise puis par un exposé sur
les systèmes de télécommunication utilisés sur les unités de production. Puis
une présentation sur le produit phare de SBM, le FPSO sur lequel j’ai travaillé
tout au long de ce stage. Enfin, un exposé de mon travail au sein de
l’entreprise consistait à produire toutes sortes de documents nécessaires, de
l’écriture des spécifications aux dessins techniques (layout et diagrammes
d’interconnections).
