Vieux Farka Touré – Special guest Mory Kanté
Vieux Farka Touré and Mory Kanté have both been to Luxembourg with their own groups
several times before. This time, they will be sharing the stage for an extraordinary exclusive
encounter in Luxembourg. On his first album (2007), Vieux Farka Touré paid homage to his
father Ali Farka Touré, the Mali blues legend, but with a hint of a style more his own, and
Vieux now plays a more hybrid kind of blues under the US label Six Degrees. On his last
album entitled “Mon Pays”, Vieux responds to the conflict in Mali by celebrating the country’s
amazing culture. His music mixes his international experience with Mali traditions, creating
an incredible meditative groove.

Ayo
Ayo stormed onto the music scene in 2006 with the hit “Down On My Knees” from her first
album “Joyful”, a masterpiece of soul folk compositions with their own unique sound. At a
kind of cultural crossroads, this child of a Nigerian father and a gypsy mother grew up near
Cologne, leaving to live in New York, London and Paris. She has won the hearts of people
throughout the world, selling over 1.5 million albums. When she comes to Luxembourg, Ayo
will be singing songs from her fourth album “Ticket to the World”, which she recorded in New
York with Jay Newland, who produced her first record and who has worked with some of the
best musicians in the US. Ayo returns to the essence of her style, a sweet but powerful
fusion of folk and soul spiced up with acoustic rap. Her latest album also expresses her
“citizen of the world” attitude, paying a timeless homage to her own roots.

Les Tambours du Bronx
More than a quarter of a century since they started out, the Tambours du Bronx, are now the
world’s number one interpreters of tribal and techno drumming. On stage, these tireless
survivors of the post-industrial age beat out their desperate energy and passion for life on
giant metal barrels. A jubilatory earthy trance sustained by ultra-controlled rhythmic
drumming that carries you off on an increasingly wild and intense sonic journey. An organic
and visual experience, the music of the Tambours du Bronx introduces you to the
extraordinary feeling created by the pure volume of multiplied sound. We are at the centre of
this end-of-the-world machine, where we are simultaneously plaything, spectator and
interpreter.
This industrial monster has been spreading its energy and sound from stages throughout the
world for 25 years now – from the USA to Brazil, the United Emirates, Morocco and the
whole of Western Europe. The Tambours du Bronx embody the expression "living art":
energy, flux and life itself emanate from the sound created by this band of 17 players who,
far from leaving you unmoved, fascinate and immerse you in their sound. The size of the
group, momentum and different influences all create music that is edgy and full of energy,
rock fusion, indus, techno and afro-beat and shaped by synthetic sound and sampling. A
collective output of feverish movements, choreographed with amazing power, where the
beat is electrifying and voices turn into shouts, all coming together with a kind of aesthetic
violence. The effect of seeing their bodies working up a sweat to a mechanical rhythmic beat
is hypnotising, the experience cathartic. The audience and Les Tambours interact, feeding
from each other, the audience becoming the inspiration.
