Douglas Jack brings close to 30 years experience to corporate, commercial and
administrative law matters in his capacity as a partner in our Toronto office. He is regularly involved in mergers and acquisitions, secured financing, commercial
governance agreements, regulatory compliance issues and the defence of
professionals in complaints and discipline matters.

Under his leadership, BLG is the only national law firm providing dedicated legal
services to the veterinary profession. Doug provides helpful advice to veterinarians with
respect to the purchase and sale of a practice, equipment leasing, employment law
matters including employment contracts and wrongful dismissal, risk management
strategies, practice governance including shareholder and partnership agreements and
implementing effective strategies for responding to professional complaints and
discipline proceedings. In addition, Doug offers guidance on estate planning matters for
members of the veterinary profession.
Given the unique nature of his practice area, Doug is a highly sought-after speaker at
veterinary conferences throughout the world addressing the legal issues of veterinary
practice management and veterinary ethics. Annually, Doug teaches a course in veterinary jurisprudence at four veterinary colleges in Canada.
Similarly Doug is well-known for serving the agricultural community having been born,
raised and continuing to reside in rural Ontario. In addition to providing assistance with farm financing and real estate matters, he has developed a special interest in the
development and implentation of family farm succession plans.
REPRESENTATIVE WORK
Regularly acts for veterinary clients in all manner of commercial law areas including the
purchase and sale of veterinary clinics, incorporation, shareholders’ agreements,
employment law, and complaints and discipline defence.
